Google Images - 1st Page - SEO Methods

Hi All,

Has anyone ever tried to rank IMAGES on the 1st page? In an effort to replace current images on G Images and have new images replaced (to the best effort) with 'current' images that show up on a google search on someones name (not very common name).

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Looking forward to your input.
 
Advertise on BHW
naa, just the standard ones.

upload to high PR sites
ALT IMG tags
build backlinks to the images
etc....

looking for fresh info....
 
the more sites that have the same image on them the higher it will rank. for the same image the largest one or one with the most links to it will rank higher
 
i never had any good results with image traffic, tried everything, but couldn't turn it into profitable traffic source worth its efforts..

Good point to know. In my excercise here, I am not going for traffic, rather for O.R.
 
Well, for ranking images based on keywords you should:
1. name your image file as the broad kw you wanna rank
2. link to the image file using relevant anchors. for ex:
Code: 
<a href="your-keyword.png">your keyword</a>
3. if the page that contains the image is empty, but is an HTML file, use relevant meta info: Title, Description
4. if the page that contains the image has some text, make sure the keyword you wanna rank with regards to the image, be placed textually next to the image position. i.e., the image should be surrounded by relevant keywords.
5. get real G pluses to the image file itself.
6. Use an HTML site map built in your website, that will link to each image path under the relevant anchor per image
7. Use Google Image Sitemap XML for faster indexing: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=178636

These are some of the parameters I use to rank images on Google Images results.

Along the same lines of what MrBlackJack is saying, I've always found that just when doing proper SEO on a site, the images will start to rank very high. So if your target is "yourname", you build a simple WP blog optimized around "yourname" with headings, content, etc. and of course in this case the images with the proper alt tags, file names, etc. Then as stated, create and submit the image site map (plug-in do this)... without doing anything else as far as backlinking the images or uploading them to sharing sites or anything of the sort, they just start ranking for some very big keywords as a side effect. Low comp keywords should be even easier.... but again traffic is crap, nothing is going to convert from people looking for images to put on their own properties ;)

mrblackjack: Thanks fort he kind input, these are great suggests. and I will take you up on them, they sound real promising. Thanks for taking the time. I will keep this threat updated with my results, in case someone in the future will want to do this. :-)

Very general description for keyword stuffing. I would advise against all of that except alt tag. Alt tags can be very helpful. Most important context for image search is text surrounding an image. Normally, this would be an image caption where a story about this image is told in 2 sentences. Backlinks and hotlinks are very important to rank images. Lastly, Google implements OCR in image search. Adding text to an image may help to rank.
 
Yes even i thought you had a goof method how to get page 1 on google images.
 
After recent google image update, google places pictures directly within search results. If you click a image it will open
in google.com itself viewers can see the picture and next to it they have "Visit page", "visit image" "more info" people searching for images hardly visit the webpage. If our images ranked on image search we are just loosing our brandwidth. In my option there is no use of spending time in image SEO for traffic purpose.

I agree 100%, but if you are doing it for the purpose of OR, then its worth it all the way!

Unless its a high comp keyword, I can get a well optimised and tagged Infographic to P1 for most keywords within a week.
