Despite a good amount of questioning from the audience on just how Hummingbird worked, Google avoiding getting too technical. While they did say that this was the biggest overhaul to their engine since the 2009 ?Caffeine? overhaul (which focused on speed and integrating social network results into search) and that it affects ?around 90% of searches?, there wasn?t much offered in terms of technical details.

The main focus, and something that went repeated many a time, was that the new algorithm allows Google to more quickly parse full questions (as opposed to parsing searches word-by-word), and to identify and rank answers to those questions from the content they?ve indexed.

As for how it?ll affect results, moving forward (the ears of a zillion SEO dudes/dudettes just perked): the engine overhaul was silently put in place weeks ago, right under all of our noses. If you haven?t noticed any huge jumps or drops in your search engine placement, you probably won?t any time soon ? at least, not as a result of the new algorithm.

All of these updates always point to kill small business. All big names on Big 'G' always profit in a way or two. I don't know wwhat other animal attacks we have to face from 'G'

I've watched the tons of threads made about Hummingbird arrival (that was by the way launched 40 days ago), I would like to add from my poor knowledge about it the following:
    - Google is preparing for the big war with the backlinks automatic submission by trying different algorithms (Coffeine was launched on March 2013 - some of us saw the impact then)
    - the target will always be the "spam" techniques used by most of the automatic submission software - of course that are set wrong or are using Socket Base and they auto submit the content very fast without taking in consideration the spam factor
    - Google is doing that to keep his supremacy on the searching engines (aprox. 60%) and is trying to offer the "accurate" results to the ones that are paying
    - the auto submission or backlink will not die - I don't see any reason - any Google algorithm called how ever will not be able to distinct the content published by human writers or submitted automatic (cleaver submitted of course).
As conclusion, for a good and proper SEO you need to follow the normal steps and to make the best of preparing the website for indexing. My humble opinion of course

Sooner or later google will make system that will ban all of the websites :p, since there's no proof that you could show wether it was submitted by human or bot.

why are people making such wrong assumptions? OP, you are misleading with your thread title. Read a bit more. It is a change of concept. It will affect maybe 100 percent of sites because it is replacing google's available technology.

for the others, Hummingbird is not an update like penguin or panda. so be calm and go on scratching your ass while watching your favorite tv show.

G has completely destroyed the local serp's. You are forced to pay for adwords if you want to leverage the massive volume of business. This is the gameplan of course, which is why FB is such a good stock to buy. Just like G they will slowly increase their rates to show growth and in 5+ years the stock price will be in the hundreds.
