Google today launched its next big search ranking update. The November 2024 core update will take about two weeks to roll out.

Google released the November 2024 core update today. The update will take about two weeks to roll out, Google said.

Core updates happen multiple times per year. Core updates can have significant, broad changes to Google’s search algorithms and systems, which is why Google announces them.

Not that it matters a lot for most of us... Even if you rank first now, with the 4 ads at the top, AI Overviews, People Also Asked and such, it is pointless since traffic will be garbage.
I even had SEO friends who shared with me that despite ranking 1st, they sometimes can even get 0 traffic at certain periods of the day, which doesn't make sense. That's modern Google for ya...

Not to mention Google has not fixed the spam issue and their only approach to that is reward big authority sites to the top...

They're going for the kill!

t disgusts me.... and I still think they've waited since the one in August....
let's see what fate has in store for us this time...

Until G is dismantled there is nothing in for us.

One way or the other we will be on the loosing side. Since this weekend RPM rates dropped suddenly and traffic was decent but low than usual. And I started thinking what is up with G. I even started a thread here.

Anyway, G will try to suck up every last bit from advertisers and publishers because it knows soon a big sword is going to fall on them.

The problem, from my point of view, is that G has taken a 180° turn from the engine it used to be.

Of course he's had to evolve like the rest of us, but I think he's done so in the wrong direction and to the detriment of visitors.

If someone were to tell me that G does this to make search results relevant, I'd be able to hear them, but that's not the case.

It removes results on a keyword to give us results from forums, reddits, and other results that in my opinion shouldn't be at the top.

I realized a long time ago that there's no point in making sites just to please G.

Site A: maximum SEO, text and semantic work, keyword research, long tail, optimization of vital web cores, in short, everyone knows.
Site B: ......rien at all!

Well, Site B is dozens of places ahead of Site A! I'm not looking anymore. I can only observe and it disgusts me....

I am not against forum entirely. Some forums do provide good information so their results should exist. But some regulations should be in place.

I am all against reddit, facebook groups and other such sort communites which basically is running by cashing the big name of their parent company and nothing else. They provide no value at all but do get ranked since their mother site is a monster.

i've got nothing against forums either, i find interesting information on them. but i don't agree with google that a post made on a forum, written in sms language by a 13 year old, should be in front of my site, whose text has been made by hand, is well thought out and has relevant content.

Not just that, they've been screwing Youtubers with all sorts of strange rules. Like they disabled uploaders from leaving their links in "Youtube Shorts", and recently they classified any videos with square or vertical dimensions and less than 3 minutes as 'shorts':
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/15424877?hl=en

They're fucking around everything to push more ads and reduce revenue for Youtubers/Webmasters. I've also been hearing reports from Youtubers that Youtube can demonetise your videos anytime even if you mention certain words and such. And if you don't upload any video in a few days or a week, the algorithm will hit you and your views and visibility will pretty much get badly affected. They're doing all these to force Youtubers to keep pumping content out non-stop.

In the past, Google Updates made sense because we would really see an improvement in the search results; but now we just see more Reddit, Youtube, and big sites ranking at the top. The game is pretty much over for Whitehat SEO. Those who do pure blackhat SEO (parasite SEOs, guest posts on big sites, etc) will still thrive. But for how long? With all the AI Overviews, "People Also Asked" and those distracting elements scattered all over the search results, your organic traffic will be hit drastically. At the same time, they're crawling your sites' content to feed their Gemini AI or AI Overviews. How unfair is that? Google isn't playing fair anymore. It is literally digital slavery now.

I'm also seeing so, so many stories of how people said they were making a decent income blogging and writing content in the past; and now they're fucked and relying on welfare cheques or working at some low-end jobs. It's sad...

I believe many of us just couldn't believe Google would become this evil.

thats so true...
But we can do anything. We could all leave Google to go elsewhere, but people never follow. So......we will wait again and cry

Agreed...

The worst part is when I tell this (Google's evilness and why they should switch) to friends or strangers, they think I'm insane like some looney old cat lady spewing conspiracies.

Oh well, let's just see what will happen in the next couple of days though we know it would definitely suck.

that's it!
out-of-towners like us worship the lord of google and believe everything he comes up with. “Well of course it's true! I read it on google pfff”.
I despair. We'll see, good luck to you all ^^.

Your observations about Google's search results are valid. I experienced a similar issue on one of my own sites, where impressions reached 14k, but there were zero clicks, and the traffic suddenly dropped. It would be interesting to understand exactly what Google is trying to address with these changes., killing us.
It's crucial for website owners to focus on producing high quality, user centric content that match with Google's guidelines. Staying informed about algorithm changes and adapting strategies accordingly can help maintain and improve search rankings on Google.

Is SEO DEAD?
from google's point of view, yes.
It makes its own rules, changes its mind with every update.
SEO as we know it, as far as I'm concerned, is dying and we're dying with it.

I think the update began this week itself, and is expected to take about two weeks to fully roll out, would be about reassessing how content is evaluated and ranked.
