Google Confirms Links Are Not That Important

i'll 2nd that,

from my current testing, links are important than ever,
the thing is more & more type of links are not doing the job anymore,
the quality of links matter much than ever, geniune quality of links are the ones that should've be focused on nowadays,

that doesn't have to do with the domain authority necessarily,
it's more like links from less niche relevant pages primarely & websites overall, links from spammy websites with huge obl are the ones getting devaluated,
i don't have enough data to totally confirm that, but for a dozen of websites within different niches & type of links, that's what i'm getting conclude for my personal work at least
Do you recommend any good service here
Hi
It's me

links are important, but make sure you get them from good quality websites else its useless.

Content doesn't matter because AI can easily create content.
Backlinks don't matter because you can purchase them.
Google doesn't matter because they are liars.

Fuck me, wanna guess how long they have been lying to us about this?

They are a huge corporation, they aren't looking to be truthful about shit. They don't think they owe you the truth, they have money to make!

They don't know what they are saying :D you will se this and tomorrow how you need to build your link by google they jsut like to mislead everyone!

They've been doing it for over 10 years.
They really think that people who know their shit will listen to them?

Thank god I was about to buy some rare expensive backlinks. All hail Google for the info

Not important but google will rank who has massive backlinks, typical google, just like the HCU, content is important then rank shitty content

As already mentioned in the comments, we have heard this for years. However, the data continues to point the other way and shows just how important backlinks are.

As you mentioned SEO professionals continue to say just how important backlinks are, this is because most leave no stone unturned to get their/or their client's websites to rank as high as possible, and when you do that you will continue to see the importance of backlinks.

So, from seeing how our client's domains have trended post update, I would say that backlinks have remained incredibly important and probably will for the foreseeable future, so continue to factor it into your strategy.

I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be as dramatic as people make it up to be.

It has been a while since Google has been telegraphing to the larger SEO community that links are part of a larger set of signals that they send.

Do you guys remember the 200 search signals that Google publicized a few years back?

Well, I don't see this as any different.

In the background is the unavoidable reality of AI.

As we all know, Google is one of the pioneers in machine learning.

RankBrain is a key example of machine learning technology in action.

It would not really be a surprise if Google ranks search results based primarily on contextual clues in the content itself instead of contextual clues outside of the site.

Technology has changed.

Now Google can effectively read the page of content to see if it's just stuff garbage.

20 years ago, it couldn't and that's why it had to rely on external editorial validation aka links.

Not anymore!

I'm not saying that backlinks are completely irrelevant, but their relevance is eroding day by day thanks to artificial intelligence.

The bigger issue here is not whether you can use this information to rank higher.

The bigger issue is whether you should build websites for Google at all.

Why?

Consumer tastes are changing.

Right now, people are more than happy to click on a series of links that appear after they do a search.

These are called search results.

What if consumers start to expect and assume that search results should take the form of one answer?

This is where most publishers will get in trouble because most publishers will be wiped out.

There will only be one answer.

Sure, Google can say, "You can click on this icon to see the whole list of sites."

But nobody will screw with that.

You know that.

So the key here is to come up with ideas and validate them quickly because the window of search content and online publishing as we currently know it is fast shrinking.

There will be a massive die-off of online publishers sooner rather than later.

The key here is to get several steps ahead of this AI-generated Armageddon.

Once consumers' expectations and assumptions regarding search results change, the game is basically transformed.

We as the suppliers of this information have to play by that new tune.

I'm telling you now that is the tune of the future.

It's time to anticipate it, test different solutions, and quickly fail so we can identify which solutions don't work and which ones have a chance of succeeding.

Google Confirms Links Are Not That Important

"Google's Gary Illyes says that Google needs very few links, more evidence that links matter less than at any other time in SEO history"

Little confused with this.....

On the one hand, every SEO "Professional" says backlinks are one of the most important factors and then you have this.....

https://www.searchenginejournal.com...llyes confirmed at,he indeed say those words.
Thoughts?...
It's certainly one of the weakest 'confirmations' I've ever read. The SERPs paint a different picture.

Thanks for the comments everyone.....

After looking into what you guys and girls have been saying and doing some further reading I have begun to learn the error of my ways.....and have put so called Google Guru's on my list of not to be trusted sources

This doesn't mean backlinks are obsolete; rather, their direct impact might be diminishing as Google gets better.
Recalling my math and logic knowledge, your statement implicates that backlinks just got more important in recent months :-D

Don't worry your pretty little head about it mate.

This happens everytime Google speaks, they are a big corporation so you would expect them to be super honest and reliable. In the real world, these corporations get to the size they are by lying cheating and stealing their way up, they are just devious enough to hide their ways. This goes for essentially every huge corporation and political party.
