So, i have a business and i advertise all across the country on a few sites. On my websites, I advertise that i provide services in like 200 cities(i put a big list of cities on the page), same cities as my competitor who actually has locations in those cities. I only have one location though. I get rankings for "keyword roanoke virginia" for example and many other cities and I get pretty good response.

Also, about 4 months ago, this competitor of mine, in one of the cities who has a location of the same type of service called me saying i need to change my website because it lists all their location cities(over 100).

I get an anonymous submission on my website last week saying "google delist your spam site" or something like that. Anyway, G00gle calls me a couple of days ago, asking what the name of my business is and if im located in some city(Detroit....for example). I said I can help you with that if you live in Detroit. She tells me she has the wrong number, sounded confused and hung up. The caller id said Google and it was their listed number so I don't know that it's a fake.

Well, i haven't noticed any SERP changes so far but i'm worried. Should I sh1t my pants or should i just relax and enjoy my weekend? If they delist all my sites i'm gonna be a little screwed.

just sit back and enjoy your traffic , try and milk it how hard you can and try to '' raise '' even more , if google called you for something '' important '' they aren't hang the calls lol , what do you think if they are multimillionaire company they can't afford a phonecall :)? For google maps and locations is true they have some kind of special rules and agreements , but they can't check each and every company location from world and where are new places developed by all those companies ... :)

Google makes a station on the moon, you think their people would get confused and hang up. What level of costumer service is that? The appropriate level for a universe company? I don't think so. If someone can spoof a phone call that's not so big after all. Nothing a few k can't do. Even for someone from google to call you (the ganitor LOL )

Sounds like your competitor spoofed his number to appear it was google.

I hope that's it. It was some soft spoken indian sounding lady(accent) and she was wondering if the name of my business was "Keyword...City" which one of my sites is just a keyword domain. I don't know, maybe she was trying to trick me or verify that I was a real company. By the way, i don't do google maps or google places.

thats plain crap. First of all I would like to say that I get calls from google to verify businesses in our building so
1. They never use a number, its always blocked call, so you can never call them back
2. They never "keywords" or crap. They will only ask for business name number and address.
3. If they are not able to get hold of your they would call you back, but NEVER HUNG UP

In the same that you can "Spoof" an email, such as sending an email from Google or Paypal. You can do the same with a phone number.

If you spend enough $ on PPC advertising they will call periodically to offer assistance. Pretty sure that the caller id was not blocked like others have suggested. The first inital contact however was an email requesting a time for them to call, so maybe it was a wrong number.

I wouldn't worry about it. There is actually a free app people can get for jail broken iphones that allows thrm to spoof caller id. Anyone with half a brain can do it.

Sounds like your competitor to me! I would not worry about it too much.

If you want to get back at him send him a letter saying he is harassing you and see what he says to that.

Thanks guys, i feel much better now.

For the record, she didn't just abruptly "hang up on me". She just said she got a wrong number after I told her who i was, verified the name of the business, she said thank you and hung up. I answered the phone pretending I didn't see the caller id was go0gle. Also, one other "lead/submission" that i got, i traced the ip back to a cell phone.

I also got another lead/submission last week saying my company was in violation of some other bogus BS that is not true. Someone is just trying to play with me I believe, or at least i hope. We'll see i guess.
