Google Broad Core Update December 2020

Hoping things settle, because some of my pages were literally yeeted from page 1-2 into space.

The top results are just awful, like the laziest affiliate sites ever.

so yeah so far I am salty
Exactly. It's all messed up. On one term, my affiliate site isn't in the top 100, but a one-page google site page i made is ranking on the 3rd page. It's bad enough this can't be the end result, not even close.

I'm noticing thin sites are ranking better now. Either short pages, or a long page but no supporting children pages. Very odd.

Something else I have noticed.....domain age.

Sites under 1 year old getting slapped.
I have a 4-year-old site which has got slapped on GSC quite bad. In GA Pageviews I am seeing fewer pageviews but not too less. Losing lots of longtails on ahrefs. Don't know whats going on. Will check the rankings and update you guys soon after 2 weeks.

Forget what I said earlier.

It's almost comical. The top result for a keyword in my niche is now a two-paragraph long "review."

It's ranking better than a Consumer Reports article where they actually bought and tested the product lol.
is the top page a pure blackhat page? is it a new page? how is its backlink structure?

It's DR 9 in Ahrefs, looks like it's about 3 years old and a lot of the backlinks are from viralsweep.com with some niche edits sprinkled in the mix. They post a lot of "sweepstakes" bullshit that is pretty deceptive imo, it all implies that they are running the sweepstakes and their readers will win shit but it's actually through other sites.

I've literally never seen this website before and I track ~20 competitors in my niche - suddenly it's showing up on page 1 for multiple long-tail keywords.

Sad to see this stats. Just now, I have checked one of our major brand websites.

Compare with your stats, our brand website somewhat HIT by Google algo update. :weep:

i think this is becoming a common theme in this update... new pure crap pages that are not supposed to be in the top, suddenly have made it to the top. it seems that older sites are getting penalized for something...

I mean, the domain is a few years old but the content is really thin (in my opinion). Hoping others chime in - I know it’s been mentioned before that Google wants succinct answers to questions which could potentially hurt those of us who write longer, detailed reviews.

Bros and ladies clearly we just need to infiltrate the Google.

I read before, Google don't like long content. They claim readers prefer short, straight to the point contents.
It is 110% the Truth. People want shorter content to read powered by rich media. Google math is quite simple: 40% about your content, 60% for ads. I'm not making this up. I'm attending a slot of google partners events. They're pretty much clear about what's going on. Keep your blogging content under 300 but fuel it with pics and videos. And give google some space for self promotion.

And make your content more and more like advertorials. AdSense works great with advertorials.

Please can you explain more what is GMB
Google My Business = GMB

https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/business/
Something else I have noticed.

All of my sites that have a GMB are ok.

The ones without a GMB have been hit.
That's actually really interesting. How many sites are we talking about here? Enough to get accurate data?

Thanks for the share.
