Google algo update today

Hey guys,

So i was doing a bit of research using on sites which got hit and i noticed something similar in all of them.

95% of the sites which i examined all had a few one major thing in common... Inconsistent link building.

I noticed that sites who had slowed down their link building efforts during august has massive drops in organic traffic & those that did not change the amount of links they were pumping out (consistent link building) received a serp rise or either remained at the same positions..

Google has also been playing around a lot with the local algo as reported here and we still don't know what exactly they could be targeting within this upcoming update for non local sites..

For anyone that also got lost rankings during the beginning of September please tell us about your link building efforts.. Were they consistent or inconsistent? We're you out sourcing or creating them yourself & drip feeding?

Thanks,

Jacker818

I was pretty consistent on both of my sites, however one may have got a few more links then normal - however they was all no follow links. I only got two of my pages hit out of the 13 keywords (spread across 13 pages) I am targeting.

Has anyone got any idea whats going on?

I have over 100 sites we look after some are up with no SEO at all, some are down! Sites are from page 1 to page 4 from page 1 to 3 its all over the place and all anchort text well bellow best practice guidelines. Its crazy!

Any insight into whats going on would be great.

No one knows. Everyone in this thread is saying different things. Best wait it out till things settle. Don't make any big changes to your site just yet. Carry on adding content, building more sites as usual.

Nights i am in page 2 and days no ranking = N/A !!!

any update from google about this algorithm ?

I have 1 site that was hit and that site has EMD. It was hit hard only for its main keyword. The site went from page 1 to page 3. Then on the other day I saw it in the first page. On the third day dropped to 3 again. Yesterday I saw it again on the 1st page. Today it is on the 5th page. Still waiting to see what will happen. I think the update is not finished yet.

The other keywords also had some changes, but not that much.

I don't think it has to do with link building this time as I do not have spammy looking links and 50% of them are editorial. Look more like an update for the content to me.

My money site went from page 5 to page one at #4. I've never done SEO on it But a few years I was doing Copy/paste of articles but since about 8 months ago I deleted everything and only did original content.

I get a lot of traffic from social media and besides the official sites that rank at the top the other sites seem to be trending with individual articles.

Just my 2 cents hope it helps someone.

Zero change for me thus far...

Which spinner did you use for the site that wasn't hit?
articlespinner.fr but used the readable option for T1 (not available publicly although you might ask them for a test acc.) and unique for T1/T2.
As for the update it seems that some of the sites have stabilized and are not fluctuating any more. Those who were hit after a content update on some of the pages +500 words they seem to be doing better, lowered the KW density to 0 EM mentions of the KW and I am seeing some positive movements.

Its strange because ive got one site no SEO on at all and has seen a jump from page 3 to page 1 not a single link has been built.

i am working on travel site

my website ip location is for France , i am working in " how to travel to Russia "

my target is UK people or any other country

so in this case is IP important ?

how google local base algorithms deal with this ?

I monitor a bunch of European SERPS and this was a big one. Doesn't appear to be Penguin, but who knows, it had a huge impact on some spammy niches.

Most sites dropped -7, while others dropped all the way to page 9-10.

It seems mild in the USA so far, but could be rolling out there as we speak.

Post your rank changes.
do you know the type of algo was it part of QA or something else, i am trying to find out this but struggling so far... :(

looks like adress and phone number are important
i don't know about ip but i dont think it's relevant
by the way, it looks like GG is testing multi-versions of his new baby

Well, I read all posts. And I have to say you something interesting!
All of you are talking about usual sites, but I have a twitter page for SEO.
As you understand there is NO on-page, on-site SEO!!! ONLY link-bilding! All kind of links from GSA to expensive home page links.
Before this update main KW was at #4, after #16-#18.
I thought: Content is the reason and of cause short lenght of twitter's posts.
But today my twitter URL jump up back to #5, for a few hours, then back to #16 and still dancing.
What do you think?

I think google is still testing & we have no choice but to wait.

Your server location has always been important. Use CF and it will mask it.
