Elon Musk just tweeted:

To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:

- Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
- Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
- New unverified accounts to 300/day

They try to force everyone to buy Twitter Blue.

I see lots of complaints people can't see their normal feed due to the limit being exceeded.. This will backfire on them for sure.

Elon just proves he is retarded.
There are so many ways to limit/stop scraping, especially when you sit on pile of money...

I will scrape without login so there will be no limit

It can be still scraped though crawlers around 1 million tweets every 30 minutes.

Agreed. How is this not the dumbest move? Seems it will effectively stop all visitors that were landing on twitter from search engines, or people/business linking their twitter on their sites/blogs for communications.

Guess it's part of the journey to tank the site.

hmmm it may be a tactic to not have to pay back the loan he took for buying twitter (if he did… I heard rumours). So no, it might actually be a very smart move in terms of money.

Scraping maybe not but people who use tools like TwitterDub will be hurt the most.

Pay2Tweet

If we think about it, social network make little sense financially. I mean, 99.999% of the content in there is plain trash. 99.9999% users don't make them a single penny. Fake news and crazy conspiracies are rampant. Politically, social networks have done more damage than nuclear bombs, especially during the pandemic.

I say good riddance if all social networks shut down.

I can see the tweet above and I'm not logged in
so there must be a way

I love how everyone knows better than Elon.

I'm not commenting on whether it's good or bad, but it's funny that people keep calling him dumb. He's the wealthiest man on the planet right now.. But yet, every tom dick and harry in their mom's basement knows better about how to run twitter ;-)
