Hey guys and gals. I am fixing to start reaching out to people and try and find some article writers for a blog im going to start but right before I posted the notice I got to thinking that I have no idea how many words per hour is considered acceptable. If I am paying someone 15 to 30 an hour to write an article what is to be expected? 500 words? 1000? 2000? I dont want to hire someone and see them writing 500 word articles every hour and be disappointed with the length without knowing what should be considered acceptable.

thanks!

Depends on what you care about the most. If you push someone to deliver an X amount of words in Y time, they will compromise quality.

An actual writer takes the time to know your audience, their problems and how to make them respond. 500 words can take them multiple hours. And that's OK.

Writing for the sake of writing can lead to about 1k words. No previous research or actual audience knowledge.

Will you be paying someone locally? Most people online charge by the word count.

Most of the writers charge for word count not for hours!

The best approach is to pay based on the word count. That way, both you and the writer will be clear about the expected end result.

If you want to pay per hour, the writer can approximate how long it will take them to research and write the article then give you a rate.

How long it takes the writer to complete the article will depend on how fast they can type, their knowledge of the subject and how difficult or technical the topic is. So, an hourly rate will depend on the writer.

Pay a per-word rate and not an hourly one, you'll receive more in return for your investment that way and will be easier to manage overall, believe me.

If you are expecting quality means you should not expect more than 2000 words per 24 hours.

Normally people will not ask for pay per hour, particularly for articles writing. They will charge for word count.

It would take me about 3 hours for a 1000 words article and that includes research, editing, etc.

But I'm not working as a writer and you can probably get someone to do it faster.

If you're an absolute beginner at this, a 1000 word article should take you about 3 to 4 hours. A 2000 word article should take you about 6 to 8 hours

You should always pay writers per word. Writing takes research and you can’t predict how much research for a text will require. The only instance in which I could see paying writers per hour as viable is when they have to collaborate with a team and constantly exchange information.

In copywriting, you get paid for the volume of work, not for the time. Another question is how long it takes you to write a high-quality and interesting article. Maybe 1 hour is enough for you, or maybe 2 weeks.

It's way better to shift to a standardised rate. ($2/100w etc..)

Just pay based on the word count rather than on the hours. And, no two writers are ever created the same. One writer can take 4 hours to complete a 1000 word article, while another can take just an hour for the same piece.

I'm an article writer myself (not on this forum), and can churn out anywhere between 3000 and 7000 words daily.

If you are using Upwork which i suspect you to be using, choose "fixed rate" as opposed to "hourly rate" when hiring a writer.

Depends on the level of existing knowledge. If you already know a lot of about an area, the need for research is dramatically reduced.

You def should be looking at word rate instead of hourly rate.

I give my VA's 3 hours to do a 1k article. 1 Hour for research, then 2 hours for writing.
They mostly get it done quicker, but for harder topics they don't complain, as that's still enough time

Any tips for writing this amount of words per day?
I mostly get tired/bored after 2000 words. Even if I divide the 2000 words in parts. Can't go more than 600-700 words per sitting.
Nothing special really, i just love what i do as i have been doing it for about 3 or so years now.

Lol, i usually do 2K per sitting. What i can advice you to do is take writing seriously. Treat it as a job and set a minimum number of words you will—that you must put on paper every day.
