Well Goldman Sachs owns a % of circle and therefore now owns a % of Poloniex so you are both right! The title is so misleading, Goldman Sachs didn't buy Poloniex, however a company called Circle (which is backed by Goldman Sachs through investment) has acquired Poloniex. Just thought I'd clarify that.
They can't just straight purchasing crypto exchange (witch is most banker hate it, but deep inside of them they love it and see the opportunity through it). Plus they are a big company with 900+ billion asset. The title is so misleading, Goldman Sachs didn't buy Poloniex, however a company called Circle (which is backed by Goldman Sachs through investment) has acquired Poloniex. So they are more likely hiding behind "Circle" when making the purchase. (my theory, I can be wrong).
