I’m trying to figure out which method is best for my account.

I stayed public for around a month with a 17k account and an update of new content. I was expecting a lot of unfollows because the account is based on a character who now looks considerably different with the new content but in the long run will be more beneficial.

I managed to get around 12,000 impressions on hashtags and one image got to explore but only got 2 views lol.

however, although I managed to ramp up around 100,000 impressions I was only gaining around 8 follows from each post. It’s almost like people went on my page but I wasn’t able to convert them to a follow. I was also loosing follows daily - and not getting many follows. So I was loosing on average -130 a month.

I changed my account to private which meant I also had to change from creator to personal. I paid £30 for a shoutout from a fashion page and got 145 follows (after unfollows etc). Which was good. I have done shoutouts before whilst on public and probably only got around 40 follows. I also found I was gaining more follows then I was on public because people were interested to see my account.

However, as soon as I went private I saw a huge decline in my likes. From gaining 100 likes in 10 mins I was now gaining 130 likes in two hours. A selfie whilst on public= 1000 likes. However, a selfie whilst on private =560 likes.

you no longer can be seen on the feed of explore or anywhere else for that matter but one. Your followers. If you don't have a support system to get attention to your private -- it will be hard to grow
