It seems these days that every time I purchase a domain at Godaddy I have to put up with 30 or so spam emails from so called "web designers". I can only assume that they can get my details from Godaddy (I may be wrong). However if Godaddy are selling my details on, then are they not breaking some kind of rules considering I am paying them for domain privacy. And if it is not Godaddy selling my details on, then isn't their domain privacy quite shit.

Google your email address in quotes and see if it appears anywhere. Those spammers usually scrape them so they must find them somewhere.
I doubt if they actually bought information from a huge company such as Godaddy they would use it for spamming, with broken english, such a bad copywriting etc.

So how would they quickly have my email address, my full name and the domain I have just purchased. If my domain is private, then they would have no way to associate my email address and my domain name.
It happens on both Gmail and Yahoo, and the emails are associated with the given domains.
This used to be only the one or two, but now it is beyond a joke. What is worse most of these come through to my email folder, and not spam. So after purchasing just a few domains I am getting spammed to fuck.

It's because the website isn't private. All these "designers" scrape the info from somewhere. I started getting calls within minutes. Switched to NameSilo for their free privacy and the calls and emails have mostly stopped

It's probably Godaddy itself being middleman for those services, it may not even be considered a leak.
What I do is create a catch-all email address like so : [email protected]
Then when I use a registrar I use its name before the @ like [email protected] or [email protected] then I know and I can filter who is using my email based on the data I provided.
If you do this for every signup, you'll find out who is leaking your data. Sometimes they leak it or sell the database years later.

This is my main concern. If it isn't Godaddy, then their domain privacy is shit.

Fuck Godaddy. Sms, calls, emails they spam everything. I use NameSilo now, no problem with them.

GoDaddy privacy replaces your whois contact email with [email protected] but it will still forward you incoming mails from [email protected] to your real address. You can configure to stop email forwarding:

Try namesilo as they are really good with pricing and have free domain privacy as well
My main problem is I have several Godaddy accounts and a lot of domains with them. I don't really see why I should have to pay to transfer my domains and go through the bullshit, when I'm paying for privacy. But I certainly will not be buying any more domains with them. I had just checked my spam folder, and there are far more than I first thought. I would say 30 in my inbox, and a shit load in my spam folder. Something definitely not right about it all.
If you don't read the post there is not much point commenting.
My issue is I pay for domain privacy, so I expect privacy. Now if Godaddy is selling my domain details and email, and personal details, that ain't private. And if people can find my details when I have purchased domain privacy, that also ain't private. Do you see my issue?

Godaddy is selling them. The same way Hostgator does. The domain privacy works fine. I have my spambox filled with these type of stuff. And since I started using Hostgator first, (before Godaddy or Namecheap) I know who is selling the data.
There's always a clue when these people mail you.
