GoDaddy is for sale

OMG
Domain names are getting so expensive these days ;)
LMAO

Makes no sense, especially when they posted revenue of nearly $800 million last year....

Good, maybe they'll become a decent company again...with a focus...

I really dislike godaddy...it's impossible to purchase a domain without 3,000 upsells before you get to the actual checkout page.

Probably there was little to no profit. Up until 2006 they operated with a net loss every year since founded. Truly unbelievable if you ask me.

its not unbelievable...if they have more outgo than they have income then it will happen...i think tons of people are leaving them in droves...they try to gouge people with their prices and they forget...the average person will buy 1...maybe 2 domains...but the affiliate marketer will buy tons...and they wanna charge for privacy and all that other bullshit that 1 and 1 and namecheap gives up for free...i personally have started sending all my domains over to 1 and1...its cheaper than namecheap and whoever else (without the need for a discount)

Godaddy probably have one of the most shit business models in the world. I bet Bob Carson or whatever the hell his name is, is just getting rid of the company before they crash and burn.

I'm surprised that they are still going to this day. The amount of bs you have to go through to buy a domain, all the upselling and stuff, we're not buying a shitty ebook here we just want a domain.

You also notice how bad their website is designed and coded. It's all coded in tables and looks like they outsourced to a indian on $2 an hour. Also their backend takes an average of 30 seconds to load up. I can got reg a new domain and namecheap and have it all setup in the same time it takes me to change the nameservers at Godaddy.

The only time I've been satisfied with Godaddy is their refund process, probably because they are so used to it.

On another note does anyone remember registerfly back in like 2005/06? They were the first guys to do $1 infos. They did .net's for $3 and other crazy prices. With domain registrars they only need to pay ICANN a $0.30 commission or so and then all the rest is profit so theoretically they could sell domains for $0.70 if they wanted to. Thats why Godaddy have the $1 promotions. Back to registerfly, ICANN stung them so they were forced to shut down and Godaddy acquired all the domains.

I'll just stick with Namecheap...

I wondering why they are giving these $1 Domain registration offers, 3 in a raw. I guess they are desperate.

I'm one of the one's that jumps ship as soon as I can transfer any new domains I pick up from them, but I have to think that, that is a company that if run right could make a ton of money! Less superbowl commercials and more added features and benefits.

Also when I do a check for a domain, don't register it before I come back to get it tomorrow!

to much competition out there but the name that most people go to is godaddy just because of all the adds that have run on the Superbowl and many other events now i see them promoting on youtube videos and other events like basket ball and college games must be spending a hella lot of money on that. ha ha I said "hella"

I don't see why they would sale...I'm sure business is good with a bunch of new people tryna start businesses and all!!

Something is fishy here...

They are getting out of the business because of custom TLDs. It will ruin the domain economy- no one will be registering domains - just custom TLDs.

Go Daddy destroyed market :/

Because of their cheap domain prices all quality domains and variations are taken.

When you are researching niches you can find out urself confused as all domains are taken, but no websites on it... They are just circulating from buyer to buyer...

As of GoDaddy itself - 1 billion dollars???? They need to have serious problems if the price tag is so low...

3-4 years ago it would be probably around 2.5 - 3 billions...

Greed killed them, hopefuly we will see some changes anytime soon.

The only fee is not the ICANN fee. If it was like that, everybody would be opening domain registrars right now. You have to pay Verisign for each domain, i believe around 6 dollars. So margin profit on domains are really bad. On actual 1 dollar coupons, they lose a few dollars on each register.
