Hey, so I`ve won the auction for this 650dollar domain, I go to my cart and I see a line "Your Taxes $136.50" there. What the ... ? I was not aware that I am supposed to pay some taxes after a simple auction victory? Is there any possibility to avoid them? I am not a US citizen if that matters.... thanks for your help.

Yes, I guess you are from the European Union.

VAT evasion is easy with Godaddy.

1. Get a VPN like HideMyAss
2. Use a US server and please avoid New York, Texas, California, they all have sales tax.
3. Choose "Paypal" as a payment method.
4. Type as a country "US", choose a state that is not one of the above.
5. Use Google Maps to get a valid US street address with ZIP Code, phones, state and city. Copy-paste that.
6. Pay!

Note - the list of tax-enforcing states might be incomplete as more and more states think of adopting VAT like taxes so if you still get taxed, use a different state and proxy.

Hope that helps

ahhhh godaddy. having a problem with go daddy auctions right now

this is what happen to me. I was searching for some domains, for a particular age using their search feature, and it showed me about 10 domains. I placed bids on them, and won most of them for 40-50$. So, basically i trusted them, that those domains really have that age.

Before paying for them, i decided to check for each domain if the age is indeed what i was looking for. Surprise, all websites were about 8 months old. I was shocked. I decided not to pay for those shitty domains. After a while, they started to send emails, that i have to pay for those domains, otherwise they will take measures, including closing my account.

Was shocked again, told them i'm not gonna pay because they have some problems with their search module, and they are still investigating this problem. So basically, they really suck sometimes.

To answer your question. That could be the VAT. I once won a listing of 200$, but can't remember what was the final price i paid.

Be careful if your paying with Paypal because if you login from a different IP they may limit the account !

Hm...I`ve tried Iowa and Ohio (cookies/everything else cleared, address changed) but it still ads a $136.50 tax on my purchase... damn. I`ll try a few more states I guess.

Use Florida.

I guess it is not so easy cause I won`t be allowed to make a payment when my CC country does not fit the one listed on godaddy...

I`ll guess it`s try to try the 'gift card' option - after all it`s almost Christmas time :)

Buying a gift card:

The fun continues
Paypal and GoDaddy have an agreement together that sets a monthly maximum of $500 for any paypal account used at GoDaddy.

The gift card purchase was a success.

Now the status says 'Yours On: 11/24/2011' - 14 days? what a joke... I feel like I am buying a domain name in 1998.
