GoDaddy A Scammer ?

Hi,

Like 14 hours back i bought a domain name and I updated the Nameserver in Domain manager. Finally my website was working perfectly. And for like 10+ hours I was just working on my website.

All of a sudden an hour back I found my website is displaying godaddy parked domain page which is full of ads.

I checked the nameserver again and found they are accurate as per my DNS. My other 2 websites from a different domain company was working perfect. So, i sent an email to these guys and in about next 15 minutes my website is up again.

I searched on google about this issues and found lots of threads saying the same thing. Is it mean GoDaddy can move my website to a parked page with full of ads at any point of time ?

Do you guys have any experience about the same ? please post... it seems they really do this.

No, I've never had an issue like that with godaddy. Actually I someone got credited with free hosting with them on a domain I had registered on new years. Weird thing is I didn't have that hosting credit till today. Maybe GoDaddy's offices are caught between this world and the Twilight Zone.

But as for your problem, it might have just been a hiccup on their server. Has it happen again since your site came back up?

Well at this moment my website is up but if you search for this thing in google many people other then have seen this issue. Their site is just stop working and start showing park page.

I have 2 other websites but never face this problem on those 2 websites. This was my first experience with Godaddy and dont know of they do this again :(
 
I heard that GoDaddy are big fat jerks that will steal your domains anytime if you give them the chance, yea this is true for all the big greedy companies out there.

But your case is rare, you shouldn't worry.
 
I wouldn't worry about either, you just registered it, its a new domain. They tell you it can take 48 hours for domain to propagate so don't worry about shit happening during that time. I have 60+ sites with domains registered there for many years. Usually mine are up and running in a matter minutes but sometimes it takes a few hours. If it was just registered, sometimes I can see the new site from my location in AZ but someone else in New York or other countries may still see the godaddy parked domain page until it fully propogates. Or maybe they can see it but I can't. Their isp is on a different network in a another location so it may take more or less time.

But after 48 hours, as long as you pay the bill you won't see that page. I see a lot of boneheads that don't even realize that thier domain has expired because they didn't keep thier contact email updated with godaddy or just didn't pay attention to the renewal notices.

Then you have to contact them within 60 days and you can still renew your domain even if it expired but after that your screwed.

I wouldn't use them for anything but domains though.
 
Nah dont worry mate, I regularly buy domains through godaddy (~ 2-5 per week) and they propagate DNS change quicker than most.

I imagine this issue is simply down to the fact they are a big problem and occasionally you will have quirky errors. However annoying this was Im thinking its probably just bad luck on your part.

Better lucky next time.
 
might not actually be godaddys fault but more that fact your host hasnt renewed their domain name that has the nameservers for your server registered on them....

when the domain expires it shows godaddy.... if that domain has actually got a registered nameserver it will for a period of time make all other domains pointing to it show the expired holding page of the domain registrar it was registered at

Now my website is working but on my website I have one subdomain which is now showing GoDaddy SAD Page again. Even I am unable to access the e-mails on that domain Says invalid password, changed password like 10 times on my host but everytime I am getting the damn invalid password :(

Now i feel like i made a mistake buying domain through GD.
 
Just call them - I had a problem with their DNS in the past and it was taken care of in 5 mins over the phone
 
I have used godaddy for a while now, the only problem i have had was the first time i ordered and they gave the run around because my ip did not match the country of my credit card... after a few fax's and phone calls everything has been fine since.

The internet has alot of posts about godaddy stealing domains by doing this on purpose etc etc but i think if you just give them a call they sort it out pretty quickly!

Almost certainly your problem is just a DNS propagation issue.

Your ISP has a local cache of the DNS info for sites that have been accessed, they don't necesarily update their cache too often, so if you access a site, then change the DNS, then access the site again, you will get the old page for a while. If you haven't accessed the site, but change the DNS, then access the site, your ISP hasn't got the old data in it's cache so has to go to the source, so you get the new page immediately... Also sometimes my ISP screws up and says a site is not accessible, but if I try it from one of my dedicated boxes it's OK, just ISP DNS screw-ups.

I have a large number of domains with godaddy, they certainly aren't perfect, but they are very cheap for infos, and have free hosting, and some quite good cheap hosting options... Typically I register a domain, set-up the hosting and it's up within a few minutes.
 
I've been using GoDaddy for a few years now and have dozens of domains with them.. I've also had issues with the DNS not updating and showing their park page for a few hours, but it's never been more than 2 days before it works flawlessly. It's typically closer to an hour or 2.
 
their service is good, what I hate about the payment area of their site is, they got tons of offer before you land on the main payment page, that's how I got charged of 2 years accidentally when my only intention was to buy a 1 year .info domain.. well I requested a refund and they brought back my money in paypal hehe
 
It can also be a browser caching issue, especially with Internet Explorer but all of the browsers have some form of caching I believe.

If you're seeing the wrong page just add a fake variable onto the URL once to see if it fixes it (the fake variable forces your browser to not serve a cached version of the page), like so:
Just add a question mark and some letters to the URL:
http://www.Your Domain.c0m?ANYTHINGHERE

If that doesn't fix it then its probably just a DNS propagation issue, but in my experience its usually a local caching issue.
 
It doesn't does that any good to screw your domains, this case is probably isolated, hit them a ticket and they should have it fixed for you

Yeah I don't think this is a scamming issue I think this is a cache issue.
