"God" mode for the internet?

Hey guys,
new product out from one of my favorite providers Spyfu
now you can gain access to any competitors Google Analytics

It's a crazy tool, does anyone know how they made this possible?

The way it reads, they get public data from somewhere and then lay it over a GA dashboard so it shows what the sites GA might look like.

Well that is not actually true and like seriously a misleading product, what they do is use data from users that opt-in and extrapolate from there, like how Alexa, qantcast, similarweb and many others do, nothing new under the sun except some deceptive marketing

They make guesstimations and sell them as facts. They also say they have a patent on this system

Hey guys I beg to differ. Signed up for the free trial and pulled the data from competitor sites. This is actually Google analytics and you actually access the data through Google analytics so its worth looking into. What you are giving is speculations until you actually check out the product for yourself. I know its hard to believe but I actually access it through GA so its legit.

Pull up some of your own sites, and compare them to the legit GA data. For me, the numbers are all off by 30-50%.

Thanks for giving it a try - I really think you’re going to love it.

You guys aren’t wrong to compare the way this works roughly to SimilarWeb. But, it’s not the same - and the end result is that it’s like infinitely more powerful.

First I’ll explain the similarities:

Yes, it’s based on a really big panel of opt-in users - pretty much how SimilarWeb get their data. We’re not literally hacking into peoples’ GA accounts; that’d be illegal.

When you compare our top level traffic metrics we’ll be about as accurate as they are. I think we might be a little bit better - but who cares? Top level traffic metrics aren’t interesting.

What’s interesting are the rates and percentages - the depth of behavior you can analyze.

You can see conversion rates at a keyword and landing page level. You can see which products sell the most. You can see which features are most used.

You can see how many sign-ups and cancellations NetFlix has - in real-time - before their quarterly report is released. You can see how many flights Southwest.com booked to San Diego. You can see how many people from New York City visited a sushi restaurant profile on Yelp today!

You can see product-level analytics of every product sold on Amazon, BestBuy, Target, literally any website. You can see influencer-level analytics for every influencer on every platform and across platforms.

Did I mention that SimilarWeb data is like a month old, and our data is an hour old?

So, from a data perspective, the Simweb comparison is valid, but from the power perspective - it’s not even close.

As the inventor of the first ever of "them keyword difficulty tools", and also the inventor of this new tool: I can tell you that they're definitely not the same or even close. You should look at it again.

So only 30-50% accurate according to the stuff you checked right?

Yo boys don't be that hard with the developer, he's just trying to explain what his software does. You can't know if it worth a try if you don't try it.

I read that to mean that based on his comparison, we're showing top level traffic numbers (pageviews, sessions, etc) that are 50-70% of the top-level traffic numbers he sees when he looks at his personal GA account. For example, if he sees 100k visitors a day, we show roughly 60k.

Doing these side-by-side comparisons is tricky. On it's face, this difference might be because we're not pushing in mobile data *yet*. That's likely the easiest explanation of the 40% of traffic you are not seeing. You can check, by viewing your personal GA through a new custom segment called "Desktop". To build it: Add Segment --> Technology>Device Category [exactly matches] "desktop".

But, there's other ways these things can be off. If you're looking at the "real-time" view in GA, keep in mind that our data is from 1 hour ago. So, you're never going to get a exact match in the real-time view.

Finally, how sure are you that the Google Analytics on your website is best source of truth? Are you absolutely certain that you have a perfect implementation that's not oversampling or under-sampling your visitors? Do your back end sales and your commerce goals match perfectly? My understanding is that >95% of sites with GA installed have "less than perfect" implementations. And those bugs are super hard to track down, almost nobody takes the time to do it, and an even smaller number ever do an audit or unit tests to ensure the implementation *stays* bug-free and up to date. Double-counting is rampant - if you build a crawler to look for it -- it's ***everywhere***.

Having hour-old data doesn't explain why your service reports higher numbers than GA...

One of the sites I checked was a local lawyer. Your site said his site had 100+ unique visitors today, GA said ~50, and the raw Apache access logs said ~50. And no, this site does not use Cloudflare or any caching service, so every valid visit should have been seen and counted on my server.
