"God" mode for the internet?

Having hour-old data doesn't explain why your service reports higher numbers than GA...

One of the sites I checked was a local lawyer. Your site said his site had 100+ unique visitors today, GA said ~50, and the raw Apache access logs said ~50. And no, this site does not use Cloudflare or any caching service, so every valid visit should have been seen and counted on my server.

Ahhh, okay. I see.

So, that’s a completely different type of issue. What’s going on there is you’re dealing with an *incredibly* small amount of data - no offense.

So, that’s just a sample size issue. The wizard should have given you a message warning you against creating that site. Something like:

“Unfortunately, that website doesn't get enough traffic to be useful for a very long time.

We want you to have an amazing experience every time. Looking at this website in Google Analytics is probably not going to provide valuable insights until the traffic builds up for at least 6 months and maybe a lot longer.

If you still want access, contact us and we'll get it set up for you.”

Did you have to contact support to get an override?

The reason we made it that way - and it was my call - is because I wanted to make sure that you have an excellent "first run experience".

What I mean is, for smaller websites, you might finish the setup wizard and watch the progress bar set up your Google Analytics account... see that whole thing go across, waiting in anticipation. Then, when you see it done you click on the link, you open up your brand new GA account with your competitor's data in it... and... there's like 1 user in the real-time view.

Ugh. That sucks. I want you to go in see like 380 live users - or 30,000. I want you to be able to slice and dice the data by cities and countries and see the conversion rates and stuff. Right away. When you see it, it's MAGICAL.

But, the other reason is of course - you just have to let the data in a small website build up for a loong time before it reaches statistical significance. The same is true with a *normal* GA account too.
