Go for authority site or MNS?

Okay, I have 2 projects going atm and I decided I can add another project. I tried making an MNS for experience, but I realized I sucked at designing websites. Here it is for reference of my ability (I know the content is shit)

I have a designated a budget of $250 for this additional project. I can either buy 1 authority site or 20 MNS sites. Minimum search volumes for the MNS are 30,000 (for all 20) while the authority is 10,000.

I have googled a lot and there are pros and cons to both situation. I will do all the SEO manually (100 high PR social bookmarks) for the MNS and for the authority I might buy a service.

Which one can dish out more cash at the end of two months? I have a lot of time now (summer!) so I think I can manage 20 sites. Thoughts?

Just so happens that I am getting into crossbows myself as a hobby. I decided the niche was fairly saturated already for my work-time pursuits. It's a sexy thing so that's not usually a profitable niche if you come late in the game - IMHO.

I think for that $250 you could get some very good articles written, or ----what???----write them yourself! I know it sounds crazy, but you are obviously a native English speaker and well, that's half the battle in finding a good writer. Add a fiverr for logo, FB cover, etc. and you're still under budget.

Managing 20 crapo-sites might not be as fun as a real authority site in an area that you love.

Thin niche sites are hard to rank after Panda 4.0, always go authority these days for a new site.

Thanks for the answers. The problem with authority sites is that I have to keep adding articles or it will go down in flames.

But, Retraction, if you do keep adding content your income will go up and up.

To add to this, you have the option of drip feeding the articles slowly instead of posting all of them within a short time frame. For example, if you had a budget for 16 articles, you could post 2 articles per week and have enough articles for regular publishing in the course of 2 full months.
