Gmail Links in Emails Redirecting

Hey,

Just noticed when offering support to a customer...
I mentioned a couple of urls in my email to them (using Gmail).
To avoid typos, I always then click on the links, just to double-check I wrote them correctly.
Today, when clicking, they don't go straight to the url like they always did, today they get redirected via a Gmail-generated redirection system.

Have you noticed this? Any idea what's going on?
Is this something we could take advantage of? Or is it more likely to screw us over, as now links followed from Gmail emails will start to show referers?
