Hi all. Site for the USA, competition by keywords (semrush kd) ~62. Main page. For a year and a half, for the main key phrases on the main page, it cannot go higher than 5th place. About 1.5 years ago we started purchasing links (3-4 links), which after a month resulted in a drop in the necessary queries to 8-9 positions. We immediately began redirecting (asked sellers to change the URLs of these links) these links to other pages on the site, and after 1-2 months the positions returned to 5th place. We tried to change the main one, there were 3 different versions, nothing grew above the 5th position. In January of this year, we started purchasing links again, and again we got the same result, a drop, but the purchase took longer, and for many positions the main page dropped to the second page of the search results. And now it’s not clear what to do next, links can always be redirected, but how to raise this page above the 5th position? Maybe we can wait and not buy any more links, and the positions will return back to 5th place? This is not the case with other pages, but the competition there is lower everywhere for key phrases.

It seems that you are putting a lot of effort into ranking at the top of your search results. however, in the process of purchasing and redirecting links, there has been a temporary decline in rankings, and it seems that you are looking for countermeasures. Instead of continuing to purchase additional links or redirect to increase your rankings, it seems important to change your strategy to improve the content of your current page and improve your user experience. considering the quality and relevance of purchased links, and maintaining a natural link profile is an important factor in search engine optimization. It's also important to update your content and provide additional value to encourage users to spend more time on the site.

In addition, highly competitive keywords can take time, so it seems important to consistently strive to provide quality content and meet the needs of users.

Thanks!

This is an interesting thought, I thought about it, and decided not to stop the purchase. Now the queries that were on position 5 are already close to page 3, how long should I continue to buy links? Have you encountered this: after purchasing links, your rankings dropped within 3 months? And they keep falling?

Thank you, very interesting thoughts. But my request is not local (we have a SaaS project management tool), and plus/minus competitors above my position have the same indicators for links and site trust. Previously, our site had already taken first place for these requests, but that was 4 years ago, and the competition was much lower. In all other characteristics we are similar. We have exactly the same keywords in Spanish, and there we are ahead of the same competitors and ranked 1st (in Spain and Mexico). And the funny thing is, all these competitors have the same pages as the English version, just translated into Spanish, just like ours.

It's understandable that you've decided not to stop purchasing links. However, it's important to consider the potential risks involved in continuing to buy links, especially if your rankings have dropped significantly. in my experience, after purchasing links, it's not uncommon for rankings to fluctuate in the short term. However, if your rankings have continued to drop for an extended period, it might be a sign that the current approach isn't producing the desired results. I'd advise closely monitoring the impact of the purchased links on your rankings over the next few months. If you continue to see a decline, it might be time to reassess your strategy. It's crucial to prioritize the quality and relevance of the links you're acquiring and to ensure that they contribute positively to your overall link profile.

Ultimately, every situation is unique, and it's important to carefully evaluate the impact of your actions on your website's performance. If the rankings continue to drop, it might be time to consider alternative strategies to improve your website's visibility and authority in the long run.

Thanks!

That article doesn't only apply to local. For example, I have a comparison site and I couldn't get above firth position as companies I was comparing were above me but some years ago google changed their algo so comparison sites are on top now so I finally managed to move up.

In your case, it seems like you're competing against similar sites.
Links tend to do the job for me and it's normal for me to go down at first when I acquire new links but then the site bounces back.

That’s what I’m saying, this has already happened, if I now remove these links from this page, it is quite possible that requests will again rise to the 5th position. I already did this, as I wrote above, then about 3 months also passed, I stopped purchasing, and then deleted these links after another couple of months and all the positions returned after 1-2 months. What fluctuations were there in your experience, how long did it take for pages to lose positions?

It is very interesting. What is your experience? How many months can a loss of position last, from your experience?

For me, it's more than 2 weeks.

For me this has already been going on since February 5, that is, for more than 3 months. Should we continue the experiment and purchase more links, or not? But the fall has stopped; requests are already moving between the first and second pages. But they all started from 5-6 positions( It didn't get better, but they stopped going down.

What do you think?

I think this is all due to Google demoting the pages after the links to them resumed growing, there seems to be such a Google patent, but I can’t find it. Can someone tell me?
