Giving it one last shot

Without going into too much detail, I have been unemployed for a few months and am getting to the point where I am not going to have any money left in the bank if I don't get a job (or some income stream) very very soon.

Have not had any desire to work or really do much due to depression, but I have given myself a wake up call and know that I would rather work for myself this summer and have fun rather than slave away at some shitty job.

I have read about/put together a method which I am putting into action next week, but I want to hear what you guys have to say about it in the mean time, and any tweaks you have for me before I do it.​

1. I am going to collect a list of ten businesses on Monday morning that either do no have a website, or have a shitty website.

2. I will build each of them a new website (gathering any info either from their old website or from Google/Yelp/etc.)

3. Call up each business and get the owner on the phone for a few minutes, tell them about how I just built them a new website and have him/her take a look at it.

4. Make the sale. (Or not.)

5. $$$

I plan on pumping these sites out fairly quickly, using templates for sure.

Not that I am trying to push crappy sites, but I do only plan on charging $250 per site + $25 a month for hosting and maintenance.

Any input BHW?

you are on the right kinda path.
My advise is to stay motivated, and eventually you will break out of the anxiety / stress / depression cycle.
it is possible, and IT WILL come in time.
I will let others comment on their views about twisting your plan to best effect.
but in the meantime check out the threads here by 7878, much can still be useful if
you digest the info and method and twist it for yourself

Just try this method and see if it works out. Many will have an opinnion but wothout action how would you know how well this works? Take action and keep us updated.Good luick!

Use some photoshop to make the website look very eye catching and when you call them talk to them as if they were your best friend and you should be fine.

It's great that you do something for yourself because nobody else will. Do it 16 hours straight for 1 month and you should see some cashing coming in.

Thanks for the tips and motivation guys! Like I said, I do not want to waste this summer away working a shit job when I could work for myself and go to the beach everyday.

The sites will definitely look nice enough to be worth $250.

If someone is not interested in the site I built for them, should I offer it for free with the monthly fee or save it and try again another time?

Hell NO!

You put your time and effort into creating a website revolving around their niche, products and location. Offering it to them for free make you look like you are "DESPERATE" to make a sale. On from there they will try to take advantage of you.

If you don't make the sale. Look for their competitors and see if they are interested in your work.

If I was you I would just go to their competitors and offer it to them (you'll obviously change the logo and content)

Boy oh boy, do I know where you are coming from MistaBlack! Just went through the same scenario you described and thanks to getting some help I am out of the "do nothing" rut that depression can put you in and have been working on IM every day.

Just got to latch onto something that works for me!

Thanks again for the input guys, I am really excited to start this on Monday.

It will be tough for me to go to their competitors with it since their competitors will already have a site, but I will not let them have it for cheap if they refuse. I'll just save it and either see if they come back, or try again another time.

However a list of 10 is not gonna get you anywhere.......if you really want to do this, get a list of AT LEAST 100 leads and then start calling them.

Also don't build the sites first, that's going to take a lot of time from you without anything to show for it. First you need to know if they show some sort of interest first and then you can put together something for them.

Do this instead....

Take some screenshots from a nice, niche relevant theme from themeforest and you can show them that.
Also try to target a couple of specific niches so you can then build some generic sites to show them.

If they declined to do business try to find out why...do they need really need a site? too expensive? don't trust you? That way you can counter with another proposal, you can offer to rent the site instead, be creative and try to get something out of the call.

Thank you for the input and different approach, but the whole point is having a site completely built for them when I call, the sites will take less than an hour each.

Another member did basically the same thing and had a 2/5 conversion rate. I am hoping for 1 or 2 sales for 10 leads, which I think is realistic considering it is fairly cheap and they fact that the site will already be built sells itself.
