Giving away items/services in exchange for REP

Rep shouldn't be something that you ask for. REP = reputation. You earn your reputation on a forum or anywhere for that matter, you don't ask for it.
You can't just magically become reputable somewhere just because people are "vouching" for you. It takes a lot more than that.

The rep system should only be used for those who are actually contributing methods, shares, knowledge,etc. I believe the THANKS button is meant as a means of "oh I like this post" or even actually "thank you for posting that" and most people think that if they have a higher REP count, they may get more respected around the forums... Lately i've seen people with "high" rep getting banned... if they ACTUALLY had a high reputation, why would they end up doing something stupid and getting banned...

Getting +rep is one thing, but EARNING your rep is another.

why not remove all rep from anyone caught asking for it....simple.
 
The best ones are the people who have "please hit the thanks and/or + rep button if you like this post" in their signature. Making sure they cover all their bases.

Because it's not against the rules. It's just really, really, really dumb and annoying as all hell. :D
 
I think it should be against the rules; rep is in part (when taken into account with other metrics) a handy way to gauge the person up if you haven't had prior experiences with them. If we are going to flounder for rep like other websites we'll be further diluting the community that we pride ourselves on keeping so refined.

We'll start to see those posts "+rep me for my super secret method" and the like, quite frankly reputation should stand only for a job well done beyond the merit of a mere thanks.

Anyone doing this should just be fed to narwhals.

Well maybe its time to ban someone for a few weeks when somebody asks for it.

You cant get rid of rep or thanks because its got a great purpose, to rid us of the even more annoying "thanks for sharing" posts. It still doesn't even do a great job at that though.

SO, m0g0l, everybody knows about this guy, he did a lot for this Forum, he saved for us $**** or more for each of us. I never had any QUESTION about his REP and Thanks Number...

What about athleted123 ?, Honestly, i didnt check his Threads and Shares, But after i saw a couple of his Threads, posting Video and Pictures of New cars (his cars :)), and many guys just give him REP or Thanks...i dont want to spend my time anymore, reading his BS... for WHAT ? for stupid dreams and .... I dont want to hurt this Guy, but i think he is in a WRONG PLACE, the Best Place for him is WARRIOR F****, there they like to Build FAKE REP and to Play on Newbies Dreams.....

i'll give a REP and Thanks to the owner of this Thread, cause he wrote it 100%

I think you misunderstood this thread. The rant is more aimed towards people posting threads like 'free list of followers, or free auto-approve blog list', and then saying 'leave rep and thanks and I'll pm it to you'.

I never saw athleted123 ask for rep or thanks, and his high rep/post count might be a mystery to you but he has been here three more years than you and I'm sure if you dig though all his posts you'll find lots of valuable information. I recall him sharing a couple of methods in the last month alone. His posts about cars etc are irrelevant.

You will get thanks and rep - like a boss
Then think if it was worth it - like a boss

Well said all of you. I agree. I don't ever give rep when I am feeling forced by the OP. I give rep or thanks when I just really get use out of whatever the method, service, or product.

The beauty of the whole rep thing IMHO is the ability to be spontaneous with it and to show gratitude to someone who is giving the extra mile.

Just my two cents.

actually when I saw the thread I tough he will run some kind of competition :) giving bigger boobies for everyone there :)) what a shame for me ! :)

ps . on personal note now and serious one , begging for such things , makes peoples just to look cheap . I don't see the point of the thanks and rep things on the forums , it's true looks cool but ... it's same worthless like a '' thank you '' post ... :)
