Giving away items/services in exchange for REP

There's been a lot of this going around here lately, and I gotta say, it's incredibly lame. For one, I feel it undermines the reputation system and it's purpose. Clearly when someone is concerned about artificially inflating their stats like this they have a secondary agenda in mind.

Do you think that other members can't tell the difference between someone who cheated their way to their stats and someone who earned their stats the right way? C'mon now. I don't know about you, but when I see someone ask for rep in exchange for a free FB like or a Tweet I feel compelled to give them just the opposite.

Let's keep the board clean of this crap - if you want to give something away for free that's 100% OK. Just don't make others pump your stats up in exchange, because the credibility you think comes with those stats will mean nothing if they are obtained through those tactics.

Well the whole rep thing is a little useless i have 100+ rep but i never contributed anything to these forums.

Agree... if you do have something of value to give, generally you'll receive REP overtime without asking.

Rep is not about contributing, its also given if you are funny! . I wonder how many reps are given just for posting a funny thread or a post or agreeing on with something thats not IM related.

Or when they offer someting for free and then ask for rep via PM. Makes you feel obligated. :S Especially when it is high standing members in the community. Makes me wonder exactly where they got all their awesome stats and if they are another m0g0l in the making....

couldn't agree more 7878, its prety lame asking for rep i see ppl doing it all the time or making a scrapebox free blasts thread and saying thank and rep me wtf i pointed it out before about a few guys, I've got more rep than posts now but never once asked for one and i dont post nothing too special - ppl just give you rep no need to ask anyone and look lame

Well said, well said. I've received a few free services in the past couple months where the provider specifically said, "don't forget to leave rep ". Takes away the whole point of the system.

I agree 100% with that IF the REP system does work, then of course it's usage should be respected, however I personally don't give much power to any rep status on any forum' but that's me.

Out of interest if anyone happens to know where the best place to post some freebies on BHW please let me know because I have a few that will really help members in my opinion anyway.

I noticed it getting out of hand the last few weeks with all of these newer members offering blog lists. Out of curiosity I asked for a few, and sure enough they were the same crappy lists that have been passed around for a long time.

It's importance is bound to vary from person to person but I think most will agree they use it as a quick overall glance at someones trustworthiness when combined with other stats. So even if you or I don't put much stock in it I still feel its foolish and somewhat rude to ask for it in exchange for a share.

I see this way too often especially in the DL section. I have seen people reply to their share saying something like "200 views and only 3 thanks and no rep, I'm gonna remove the link if people don't thank and rep me soon!". Guess what guys, I make a mental note of who you are when I see that...

I personally think rep system should be removed, no point in these. they're just, what, forum points? lmao. keep iTrader though, they're being used properly so far from what I've seen, people can actually see each others iTraders and see who's legit.

the 'thanks' system definitely should stay to avoid 200 posts of nothing but "thanks/thank you" lol
