Here are the reasons:

It could worth more than opening your own BST (from the seller point of view)

Jr Vip OP post something for FREE and we all know that just that F word itself is enough for BHW members to spam that Giveaway with replies

Important: NO Matter what OP says, 2 accounts giveaway, 5 or 10, 100+ replies will land which is 5+ pages for sure. That is some minimum.

What sellers do in these situations? They ignore the thread while the traffic is coming, and right below the giveaway there is a signature offering the same services cheap etc.

I have nothing against this type of promotion, but I do have against abusing it.

You can't just disappear if you offered 2 edu accounts and let BHW users to spam 5 pages asking for a free edu mail. You must say its over once the 1st two guys who are inside the requirement conditions enter a reply. Simple as that.

Oh but maybe OP went to sleep right after he submitted the thread, or electricity has gone. Well, life is risky my friend, accept it or ignore it.

How to fix this? Temp ban + Freebies Abusing warning sounds great! That's just my thoughts.

Maximum of few up to 6 hours for a tiny giveaway such as few items for a few members, before mod lock the thread no questions asked.

Basically mod lock this type of thread.

There is report button, if you think someone violate forum rules you can report and mod will decide.

Most don't bother reading the whole thread; they see title of the thread and keep commenting (sometimes even this doesn't work), and the cycle keeps on continuing nevertheless.

Going back to the OP, I believe another alternative could be an option where you would input a certain limit based on number of replies when creating a freebie thread. For example, if I am giving away 10+ Gmail accounts, I will just set my limit to10+ replies, and after ten replies, the thread will be locked automatically.

Perhaps even give out options to apply certain restrictions to filter out ineligible members who reply to the thread. For example, if I only want people with more than 100+ posts to comment, I would apply this filter, and this way, only eligible users who have more than 100 posts can comment on my freebie / giveaway thread.

Exactly,What they should do is lock the thread once the giveaway is done which in this case was only for two people.

I think an auto-lock feature would be awesome, but it requires a little coding to lock the thread once the required number of posts or time is met. This will also make the process easy for mods, and they can spend their time on something more important.

I'd also recommend to close the freebie/giveaway threads after 1 month of inactivity/no response from OP. There are some threads that are active since over an year while the OP just ignores it.

No no no and no.

Mod do not lock threads on time (and I have nothing against any mod, they are super busy) these threads stay up for days and everyone spam

You can't use report button for each and every situation as an answer, neither to expect members turn into police and report freebies, but a single Mod can handle this task instead.

I opened a giveaway few weeks ago, I just said only for first 10 people or something i cant recall but i still got replies more than that and still gave everyone the freebie. I think it should be upto the OP to decide when to lock the thread.

But there should be a rule if the OP doesnt replies to the giveaway for 24 hours the thread would be locked.

Yes, some sort of the setting that will enable the OP to select the number of replies, then it will lock automatically after this is exceeded. Or even, the ability to select requirements so that if only people with e.g. 100 posts can respond, this limitation can be set as well to stop ineligible candidates from posting.
Interested in freebies if still available OP, not sure if I qualify or not. thanks for this opportunity!
No requirements have been set by the OP. Let's hope we can get something :)

After reading your responses guys (thanks for your feedback on this)

This is what I came up with: (100% automated)

Bad part is: this will need some serious coding (this is a forum) so it's time consuming

Since the giveaway rules are: 1st come 1st served (if match the requirement)

Example: OP wanna give 100 gmails to anyone with 100+ thanks and 1 year old accounts

This need to be filled in a thread posting box (similar to vote poll) and thread locked after 100th reply who is inside the requirement made his reply.

(posters who are out of requirement should not be counted if they pass requirement in the meanwhile)

Someone also mentioned that he would give more of goods to people who came later, that's cool, but then repeat your giveaway #2

Edit: If requirements are not set by the OP, thread won't turn public or being posted at all

Will this reduce the likelihood of people giving shit away? I mean they're giving away free things, maybe the ability to get an extra kick from a bunch of people that won't be able to win is fair considering the value they're providing for the forum?

I mean if I'm going to give away two expensive things, but then after two people post the thread is closed, why would I bother? But if 50 people will post and I'll get a lot of attention in the process, sure, I'm happy to give away two expensive things.

Hope you get what I mean.. also I hope this doesn't fuck up my chance of getting a freebie OP.. I was the first one btw, appreciated!

I give out so many warnings for this and half the people that get them whine like there is no tomorrow about it.

And the ones that don't bother to read the original post to see if they qualify are even worse when it comes to whining about their minor warning.

This is the BHW rule, from my quote:

Since the giveaway rules are: 1st come 1st served (if match the requirement)

So, then you don't giveaway your 2 expensive items or if items are Jr Vip, then that is a very specific giveaway and this what I'm talking about surely won't affect your giveaway. (contact mods to help you post it)

Or, set high requirements, you could turn off Jr Vips from it.

Saying this last makes me find another hole, requirements must be limited as well to somewhere to 10.000 max or less, else could be abused too.

No doubt, should introduce a no whining rule.. any form on complaining that would obviously be in a high-pitched voice if it was communicated via voice instead of text has to have their avatar changed to this for a month:

Yeah all good. My only point was that it's mutually-beneficial for giveawayers and giveawayees, but if you remove the benefits for giveawayers then they could stop bothering.

You can set your criteria for whatever you want. You can make it Jr VIPs only, or exclude Jr VIPs.
Post account over xxxx or under xxx
Member for at least xxxx years
Reactions Score / likes received over xxxx

I did some keyword giveaways years ago and set criteria such as; Must be a member over 4 months and post count between 50 and 60.

I can't find anything in the rules that would say against it, but;

Could I do a giveaway and chose the 'winners' based on reaction score received between now and tomorrow?

I understand this wouldn't be allowed for post count, but what about reaction score?

No you cannot do it based on future events as that gives room for people to manipulate the forum and they certainly will as that has been done in the past.

Giveaways must be first come first served. So you set criteria od reaction score of 500-550 and then post the thread.

First post where the person has reaction score of 500-550 gets it.

This ^ too.

We seen requirements < as an example> Post count 50+ and then seen members quickly post 15 'welcome to BHW' in Introductions just to reach 50. They clearly forget staff can see times of posts etc.

Giveaways must be first come first served.

Interesting. I think a lot of people on the forum may not know this one, as most of the time they seem to simply pick whoever they want.
