I am not sure why you would add a cc button to anywhere of your site.
The link is awesome alone.
It might be better to build a few links to the cc url and index those as well.

Hi all. I'm very new here so forgive me if I ask stupid questions.

I don't fully understand how/why this would work.

So I use the URL swap the text for my own. Then I paste it into the browser and I can create a link that I can add to my own website footer.

But I don't understand how that works? The link I am adding to my own website links back to Creative Commons but there's no link from them to me? So how does adding that link help?

Lastly, what am I indexing? The original URL? Or my own site?

Thank you for your patience. If anyone can give idiot proof explanation then I'd be really grateful

I am in the same doubt as you, but what I did was replace, in the code that they provide us with their link, the link that we just generated. Later paste in the footer of my website. That case would make more sense, I think ...
I hope you understand, my English is not very good :D

To those who asked: the link to be indexed is the example link itself:

https://creativecommons.org/choose/results-one?q_1=2&q_1=1&field_commercial=yes&field_derivatives=n&field_jurisdiction=&field_format=Text&field_worktitle=best+seo+forum&field_attribute_to_name=&field_attribute_to_url=https://blackhatworld.com&lang=en_EN&language=en_EN&n_questions=3 with the 2 fields changed to your URL and your text like:

https://creativecommons.org/choose/results-one?q_1=2&q_1=1&field_commercial=yes&field_derivatives=n&field_jurisdiction=&field_format=Text&field_worktitle=CHANGE+THIS&field_attribute_to_name=&field_attribute_to_url=https://YOURURL.COM&lang=en_EN&language=en_EN&n_questions=3

this link to the creativecommons website actually links back to YOURURL.

Works like a charm, it took me a few minutes to get it going lol, the guide from op si so clear it is easy to miss the point, lets see how long it takes to index

If this is added to my website it means that anyone can use my contents in any way they want. Right?

OK so I *THINK* I get it. I have generated the URL using the instructions above.

I think this was part of my problem. I didn't understand why putting it on my footer would help. Nor is it something I'd want to do.

So does indexing it just mean Google will see it faster? If I do not index, would Google eventually pick it up?


The backlink is actually the creativecommons
