You don't need a storefront. You dont need a resturant, you dont need a food cart, you don't need nothing just cook in your house kitchen and sell.
It's called ghost kitchen. And you know what people don't care. Hell, some will buy only from you.

Those aint cheap though... and I am guessing delivery is not even included in the price she mentioned

I think I have heard about food on Facebook Marketplace too, where you get homemade food. I guess that can also be called a ghost kitchen

It's much riskier though 'cos you are never sure what you are going to get from different vendors.

But then I see how those that genuinely make good food and have a good reputation already would really be doing well with this, but there will be a lot of bad vendors too

You are right that the low overhead is a game changer. The biggest hurdle is usually the legal side since health departments often require a licensed commercial space rather than a standard home kitchen.

If you use a shared commissary kitchen or follow local cottage food laws, you can skip the shopfront entirely. It is a smart way to build a brand through delivery apps without the massive debt of a traditional restaurant.

There are a lot of these in India. They are called 'cloud kitchens' here. No physical presence, just a kitchen, even from their apartment sometimes. They sign up with food delivery apps. Pretty hassle free and saves a lot of money in rent and salaries.

In Brazil, we call them dark kitchens. I get lunch almost every day by ordering through the iFood app, and I think it's way more convenient than spending time and money cooking during the week. It's pretty common around here.

I've seen this in alternative/anarchist circles.

The goal: to screw over big business, which only serves to exploit honest workers.

I swear, you don’t want to try that.

One day, a buddy took me to a guy who does that. “Cover charge”: €5. I saw my plate, didn’t touch it.

It was also really common during the COVID pandemic.

But if you want to catch a stomach bug or a parasite and lose 5 kilos in 12 hours, it’s a great weight-loss plan.
