It is more recent than chatgpt api -
The grok-2-1212 models have a knowledge cutoff date of July 17, 2024.

Grok 3 is out. It claims cutoff date is Dec 2024. But huge issue, it does not know about lot of things and does not read or scrape a link or url. I guess training data is very small that's why it's free.
