Geo-Targeting Not Working Properly

If you only sell locally, add foreign country and city names as negative keywords to your campaign. This completely blocks your ads from triggering if someone includes an overseas location name in their search.

This usually happens due to VPNs or Google showing ads based on user intent instead of exact location, so check “presence: people in or regularly in your target location” setting and also exclude unwanted countries in settings to reduce wasted clicks.

Check your location settings first

A lot of people accidentally use “Presence or interest” instead of “Presence” only. That can bring clicks from users outside your target country who have shown interest in it

Also, some leakage is normal due to VPNs, travelers, mobile carriers, and Google’s location detection

If the volume is significant, compare clicks with conversions. I’ve seen campaigns showing foreign clicks in reports, but nearly all conversions still came from the intended GEO

everyone already covered the presence setting, but check if you have search partners enabled. search partners is notorious for completely ignoring geo-targeting and leaking junk traffic from random sites. if you already have presence only selected and still get leaks, just bulk exclude all other major countries at the campaign level. google still lets some slip through otherwise, especially on mobile carrier IPs.

yeah you can check your location settings and exclude other countries because vpn's can also cause this issue.

yeah i think it could be a vpn or proxy traffic and also check your location settings in google ads as they can sometimes include people outside your target country.

Hello,
I set my campaign to target only my country, but I am seeing clicks from other countries in my report. I double-checked the settings they look correct.
Could this be VPN traffic, or is Google Ads messing up geo-targeting? How do you prevent wasted clicks like this?
Check the location settings first and make sure it targets only people in your selected country. then review the location report and block areas that are wasting your budget.

i'd first separate “google served outside the geo” from “analytics identified the visitor outside the geo.”

those aren't always the same thing. vpn/proxy/mobile carrier routing and different geo databases can create mismatches even when the campaign targeting itself is correct.

i'd compare a sample of the actual click ips against another geo database before changing the campaign. if the same ips consistently resolve outside the target across multiple databases, then i'd start looking harder at the targeting setup.

yeah dude i think vpn or proxy traffic can cause this so to make sure just check your location settings and exclude all thee unwanted countries.

That happen to me before

Check your settings and also may vpn and proxies

I’d check the actual search/location report before blaming VPNs. Sometimes the click location looks wrong because of how Google reads the user’s IP.

Try adding the unwanted countries as exclusions too. It can help clean up the traffic if Google is still picking them up somehow.

It could be caused by a VPN, or it could be that customers in other countries are also using VPNs. You can check the percentage of traffic from other countries; if it’s not a significant proportion, there shouldn’t be a problem.

check that your location option is set to people “in or regularly in” the target country, not people showing interest in it. some clicks may also come from vpn’s, bots, or reporting delays, so exclude unwanted locations and monitor invalid traffic before assuming google is mis-targeting.

yeah i think it could be vpn traffic or location issues and also check your location settings and block suspicious traffic.

Check if those clicks are converting or just wasting budget. If conversions are fine, it may not be a big issue.

By default, Google Ads shows your ads to people interested in your location, so you must change your location setting to only pay for local clicks.

Yes it can happen due to VPN's or location signals and also check your location settings and use people in or regularly in your targeted location.
