General Data Protection Regulation for the US

Recently I have been hearing a lot about the genereal data protection regulation. I know this applies mainly to the EU. However, why do we in the US have to put all the requirements on our sites. Especially if the websites that we offer are not trying to generate an, customers from countries outside the US. I'm just trying to get some better understanding about this.

I appreciate any assistance.

This is because even as a US based site, if any of the traffic hitting your site (or previously have visited your site) are from/were in the UK at the time of being on your site, you are subject to GDPR regulations. This is why companies that don't reside in Europe still must follow best practices in regards to the GDPR. Good luck, it's a biotch. Hahaha
 
Its going to be interesting on how they enforce this requirement.
 
In terms of the court system, it's still being debated if this could be enforced, but even without judicial enforcement it would be trivial (and legal) for the EU to block access to your non-compliant websites.

Another factor to consider is that the US will almost certainly enact a GDPR-like law sooner or later, so being complaint now should leave you in the clear once that happens.

You don't.
You could literally block all NON US access by IP. Other than that you can have a simple cookie acceptance popup if they say no, redirect to Google...

I'd think it is highly unlikely (for now) they come after small site with no presence in the EU (but again not I lawyer so just my 2c)
