General blog, is it a good idea in 2019 ?

Hello,
I want to start a general blog sharing my thoughts on different subjects (fitness, work, relationships, making money,health ...). I am passionate about writing and I would like to write my own book one day, but first I decided to start a blog to cash in some money.
I have bought the domain, hosting and set up wordpress. Do I need to do keyword research, competition study and all that seo bs or just focus on great content and let it do its job. And what methods do you suggest for getting traffic.

I don't see it as a bad thing... but the more broad your blog, more competitors, etc...

I would suggest you to try to focus on a few topics before, and then try to diversify a little bit more...

Firstly, appreciate your decision to build a website that comprise your thought of interest. I assume Lifestyle is the Niche that you would choose to call. Be regular on the contents that you post. Watch for the current news that people search and discuss.
There are common topics that have constant visitors, irrespective of time or month. Use, social media to understand the current trends and clutch the keyboards, if its interesting everything will fall in place.
