Hello BHW this is not your typical journey thread. I have come to realise that my problem is trying to make money online... I only have basic skills when it comes to any type of online project and never succeed or follow through with anything online because everything I am trying to do is always saturated with massive competition.

So i decided that i am going to use my offline skills, for thr most part of this project. I am going to be making log burners from recycled steel rims off cars. This is where my really skills lie in welding and fabrication. I am going to be selling them at trade shows, through social media, steam gatherings and car boots etc.

I think these will be really popular and think i could be on my way to owning a successful little business.

I am trying to gather funding on kick starter if anyone could share my project for me on onr of there social media accounts to spread the word that would be awesome.

Thanks for reading this journey and I hope to keep you all updated

That could be a good one OP. Any way you could add other bits from a car model, you could sell them to a certain car buyer. Contact your local paper for exposure.
    I wish you well
    Shouldn't it be called CarBQ

Good luck to you, you are doing the right thing, if marketing isn't for you then you are right to go with something you enjoy. You will find everything else will fall into place later on.
Maybe Ebay to list your creations, car collectors would love unique gifts.
Do you have a local business advisor? How about a community grant, so much you can achieve when you enjoy what you do

sounds like a good idea, you can brand them with different car logos too. as a car guy i'd be more likely to buy a product with the brand name of my fav car maker/s

Thanks for the good luck and the confidence boost. I have a job currently but as i am an apprentice the wage isnt great and i have a family to support so i have 0 spare income to invest into my idea. I have a business mindset anyhow and know what i need to do to get this venture going. The only thing thats holding me back is the starting capital to put into it for tools and materials etc.

I was going to use ebay and other online platforms to sell my creations.

I have started a kick starter but it is difficult to get my project seen by the masses to hopefully gain investment.

If i could get some shares from some big social media accounts i think i could be on my way to putting my plan into action.

Once again thanks for your input it is greatly appreciated.

I think branding them with different car logos is an excellent way to go with these also. I will definitely be creating some with that idea included if i get my project off the ground.

    Thanks Datsunguy.

As of now i know that my biggest challenge is gaining funding and exposure for my project through kick starter is there anybody that can help with this. Even a RT. I will even give a percentage of the funds if i reach my goal. I would link my kick starter here but my post count is not high enough yet. I am really committed to making this work and believe in this.

Sounds like you will be creating some cool stuff so we are going to demand pics of course.

Join every local FB group that relates to cars, food, buy/sell/trade, craigslist, swipswap, etc and share pics there with prices.

Also offer to custom create for the locals as you'll get people that are into a certain brand that want that for their backyard.

The problem with that is i dont have anything to sell as of yet haha. I need to get my kick starter more exposed but i dont know how without shelling out loads of money to companies without knowing if i am going to see a return.

Thanks for the advice though i will probably use facebook ads if this ever comes to fruition.

I will most definitely be creating some cool and unique stuff. If I can get some funding in place to enable me to but the tools and stuff I need. Ive tried all i can think of today to get my kick starter project out there today and still not one backer.

I have a few not very good pictures of the prototype i made a year ago at college.

Would anybody on here be interested in promoting my kick starter to the masses. If so that would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the marketing advice too BassTrackerBoats

i have a feeling that you are based in the Uk, if you decide to do car make branded log burners I know for a fact that you ll make good money from car clubs
us datsun guys will buy pretty much anything if it has datsun written on it, same goes for vw, bmw and pretty much every other car guy.

another thing you can offer is to turn old wheels that people have into log burners. a surprsing number of guys have wheels they like but cant really use them anymore.

You would be correct Datsunguy I am in the UK. Everything you have said is great to hear and gives me more confidence in what I am doing.

I know I sound like a broken record but the only thing holding this back is the financial side as it does with everything. I need the tools and the transportation for my creations and the only way I can get that is to go for crowdfunding. I work full time but every penny I have is swallowed up by bills every month.

Thanks again for your advice and it is always great to hear new spins on my this idea.

if you were able to produce one to show off, i bet with some clever facebook sharing and instagram shoutouts you could reach your goal quicker.

would it be possible for you to use a friend's equipment to create just one too show off? that way people know what exactly it is that they are backing. you could do something like for every backer that donates atleast x amount of money they would receive half off the purchase price and every amount donated over x they would receive the complete product.

People have made them before I got my original idea off the internet but there is nobody producing them to sell so people know what the product is. But i have my own spin on it and have added my own creativity to it. The shout out idea is really good i just have zero capital to put in to this at the minute.

Thanks once again for your input if anybody can do anything to help my kick starter reach a wider audience and get mr to my goal i would be more than happy to pay for your services on a payment after basis. Im a straight up guy and all my personal info is on the kick starter so im not about to fleece anybody.

Backers now recieve a CarBQ branded pen when they pledge £5.00 or more to my kick starter. For some reason ive been reading that pens get backers blood pumping on kock starter haha.

Really dont think this is going to get off the ground... The only way to get your project noticed is to spend loads on advertising.. which I believe defeats the whole concept of crowdfunding because then your pretty much selling them the idea. I thought it was about a huge group of people that like helping out other people but its not. Its about whos spending the most on advertising. who cares that its just another same project thats been re developed over and over again and when a genuine cool different idea comes along it just gets put to the back of the deck.

Feeling really disheartened today and to be honest I i cant see this getting any better
