Hello Everyone,

I have a website and UA property for the same. As the website is small, I have installed the gtag code manually on all pages. I am not using GTM.

Now, I am setting up GA4 for the same website with the help of 'GA4 setup assistance'. Now, I have to install the new gtag manually.

So, my question is should I remove the old gtag code that has UA id in it and then install the new suggested gtag that has G- id or should I keep both?

If I delete the old gtag code, will UA stop collecting and showing data in Universal Analytics?

Edit - This is the response I got from ChatGPT. Just want to check if this information is correct.

You should remove the old gtag code that has the UA ID and replace it with the new gtag code that has the G-ID. This is because the new gtag code is used to track events and send them to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) properties, while the old gtag code is used to track events and send them to Universal Analytics properties.

If you remove the old gtag code, data collection and reporting in Universal Analytics will stop. However, data collection and reporting in GA4 will continue as long as you have installed the new gtag code correctly and are sending events to your GA4 property.

It's important to note that GA4 and Universal Analytics are separate platforms, and data from Universal Analytics cannot be transferred or imported into GA4. This means that you will need to set up your GA4 property and start tracking events from scratch.

UA will stop getting data in a few months either way.

What should I put in the 'value' section in the GA4 custom purchase event set up. Please help!

Remove the old UA tracking code (with UA ID) and replace it with the new GA4 code (with G-ID) this way your website will only track data for GA4. The old UA data won't transfer but you can start collecting fresh data in GA4 right away.
