Future: only contextual links will still have value or is that a myth?

Morning,

regarding the future I was wondering that is it a myth spread by G that the value of normal links will disappear and we'll all have to rely on contextual links for ranking the serps?

Actually contextual links command a large portion of authority as compared to other links, as contextual contain data and information and it should lead to higher user engagement in the process.
Whereas other type of links like blog comments, forum links, etc, do not have much of these, thus the authority could be lesser.
But one thing for sure, if using the old PR as the yardstick, having a PR8-9 directly linking to your site, would be a huge bonus to your site's authority in the process, regardless.

How would anyone here know what Google intends to do in the future?

nobody knows what Google is doing now... it is all guessing end estimations
