For those asking why my presence here has dropped a bit.

In typical @Sherb fashion, I have left my cushy analytics job to pursue digital marketing full time, but with lessened risk.

How?

I was starting to get depressed and feeling miserable about the workload that was being pushed on our department. It resulted in 55-60+ hour work weeks just in my day job, which severely cut into the time available to work on growing my businesses.

If you've seen any of my threads on value and time and productivity, you know the phrase I spout ever so often: Put a value on your time. I was feeling undervalued.

I turned down a Director of SEO role to take the analytics job I was in, simply because the pay was higher and benefits far greater, and I saw much more opportunity for growth. As time went on, our departmental culture became one of people-pleasing. While there was nothing wrong with that, it takes a toll on anything done outside of the workplace, and leads to mistakes within the workplace with tasks are being juggled.

I spoke with my manager about six weeks ago, and she gave me her blessing to look in other departments. As it turned out, a digital marketing specialist role had opened in a department that works closely with my own.

I jumped at the chance. Blazed through the interviews, and as an internal candidate who had worked a good bit with my potential new team, was fast tracked with a raise in the process. I'm still transitioning into this new role, but I already love it, and will be working plenty with my old department, but without the added stress of the long hours and demanding task load.

After 11 years of the "grind on the side", I'm finally going to be paid a great, stable salary to do what I truly enjoy. I'll be able to embrace the IM life with a skillset that has been taught to me in a large part to the things learned here on Black Hat World.

I firmly believe that if not for the connections, networking, and knowledge that this site has provided me over the 11 years I have been lurking, contributing and debating with all of you, I would not be in the position I am in now.

So thanks for that.

Be humble for you are made of earth; be noble for you are made of stars.

@Sherb - You know you're one of the few people I actually look up to.

I have always believed that when high value marketers join firms/agency, the overall net value of the industry rises.

I have had the pleasure to work with some of the most talented people in the industry. And while I used to get surprised when they took up roles in the Digital Marketing space as an employee to a firm or an agency selling DM itself - I have seen the value they have put forth towards the industry as a whole.

I hope this new role helps you discover more of yourself. Here's to many a successful projects. Here's to a ton of success in your DM journey.

Stay awesome.

Mate, You'll become the digital marketing topdog within 2019's Xmas.

Wish you luck and congrats on your new role.

Hope to see you more often. :D

I haven't talked personally with you but I have read your posts and I have learned a lot! Glad to see you happy with your future! (And I will use this post to also thank you for your contributions, you and a few others are the reason I started in the IM world few years ago!)

Great work! Would you ever go out on your own and start your own company?

Was thinking of quiting my job being a corporate slave and go work with an Seo company but can't take that leap yet.

Just scared that the seo company might not be able to compensate with what my current company is paying for.

Good for you sherb, I read your threads here and you're one of the few people here that I look up to.

Cheers to your new endeavor.

Congrats man. What city are you working in?
