op did you use EMD's for this test ? were they .com .info's ? the backlinks were social? hi authority? web 2.0s?

I wonder as well how you concluded that the 6th to 9th word were more important? My only guess is that you saw these words rank high as google search keywords right?

Every other factor I could possibly think of was held equal. Every site was on a server from the same location. Server stats and ping time were the same for all servers. Page size was held as equal as possible. They all utilized the same sitemap generator. Off-site influence was non-existant, nobody shared links to these sites. Internal page linking followed the same structure for every site, with html footer links on each page.

LSI was exactly what I was testing... factors that influence LSI were the factors that I changed.

That is the starting location for your keyword or keyword phrase. Make sure your keyword appears somewhere after the 6th to 9th word.

Interesting to see someone come to these conclusions empirically as I'd pretty much done the same by seeing the various ups and downs on my own sites.

Images, videos - in fact any page 'furniture' - seem to have a huge impact on both indexing and ranking. All of my 'illustrated' sites have 100% indexing on even Bing compared with my directory sites.

H2 tags, bullet points? Well, any formatting tags help (as opposed to keyword tags which I think someone was confusing earlier in the thread) in my experience, mainly because they make a page easier to read and help with viewer retention. I'm not sure Google's directly taking much notice of them any more.

My only disagreement would be with the 6th and 9th words thing. That seems to be close to over-optimization of the conclusions drawn from the data. Google absolutely does put a lot of emphasis on the contents of the first paragraph but that precisely? I can't see it myself.

Google can easily look at HTML and see what text is after a bullet point or within tags. It would be quite logical that a white-hat article has important content in header tags and bullets. It's possible the correlation was a result of other factors, but I would still suggest doing it. Thanks for your input!

Yes. They were all hand written, non-spun, and grammatically correct ;)

he's not trying to rank them. he's trying to find out more info. we already know a video on the page would help or at lest not hurt. how do you guys not get that?
 
What about article length? Is there a specific length that outranks the rest?

500 Words was more than sufficient to get good rankings. The way I look at it... 500 words is twice as good as 250 words, but 1000 words is not twice as good as 500 words. There is a diminishing return. Obviously, longer articles almost always work better. I don't write any less than 400 words for an article on my money sites.
 
When you calculate the kw density - do you calculate only for the post or for the entire blog that includes tags, categories, related and latest posts in the sidebar.. I am thinking of removing the tag widget in the sidebar.

I did not calculate for the tag widget. I had this disabled on my site. I don't think this is a particularly positive factor in Google's eyes. It probably doesn't hurt, but I just choose not to use it.
