It's not. The court case is against Ripple, Brad, and Chris. It's not against XRP. On top of that, there are only allegations until they're actually proven. It won't even begin until February. Most of the stuff in the case may get thrown out immediately as it falls outside the 5 year statute of limitations. As for the other stuff, again, it needs to be proven.So why is XRP in prison then?

Another answer as to why, is to provide regulatory clarity about XRP, so the USA can determine what Japan, Singapore, the UK, and virtually the rest of the world has already determined, which is that XRP is not a security. Remember, ~95٪ of all XRP transactions happen outside the United States.
XRP is not "in prison", as you say. The price movement was due to FUD, as outlined in the initial post. It was the involuntary reaction to a mere mention of a lawsuit, as Bitcoin maximalists pounced on the opportunity to spread disinformation to their millions of followers.
