Both of them are trash. However Upwork is a bit better because you can just post your requirements and budget and you will get at least 10 Indian or Filipinos sending proposals. If you want to hire for low amounts you should also expect that their provided quality will be low, and deadlines won't be met.

Isnt Freelancer.com also full of Indians (the same way BHW is btw).

The issue with devs here on BHW is that they charge more and nobody can tell me if they dont just oursource the work to freelancer/upwork themselves (which I suspect).

... and then ge goes to Freelancer/Upwork and let him do the work. Also, the devs here are Indians as well. I have nothing against Indians, but I guess the quality is low because of the amount of people and the teaching methods.

In the form of generalizing, yes, maybe if many are from India, but also many developers from India are very good, you shouldn't judge by that bro. So I think that the best solution you have is to create your offer with the budget that you can use for your project and done, it would be the best not to receive absurd offers.
I've struggled to find developers for cheap on Upwork or Fiverr. I don't mind too much if the quality is low as I'm a developer myself, I just don't have the time to put together prototypes for ideas I have with the amount of work I'm doing for others. I'd be happy if I could find someone who could put together the bare bones of a working prototype and I could develop it from there if I found that it was worth exploring further.
Although, personally, if this is any use for the answer to your question, I wouldn't offer my development services on Upwork or Freelancer mainly because very few people would be willing to pay my rate on there. And the amount of hoops you have to jump through to get hired on these platforms could be better spent building relationships with clients elsewhere. I suppose being in the UK helps with that though.

Good point but entrepreneurs don't have big budgets and can only afford so much. I dont have a small budget for the project I am looking to get done but only those platforms offer some kind of protection for me as the client. I don't want to chase a guy after I paid him, so I don't want to hire someone outside of those platforms if it's a guy not sitting in my office with me together.
Absolutely agree. I'm in the same boat when I'm hiring. I find writers (I actively encourage AI use and pay accordingly, so I don't care if they're using it, I just give them guidelines), VA's, logo designers, etc no problem at all on Upwork/Fiverr. Developers is a different story. Especially as they have a habit of quoting low, and then bumping up the price as soon as you chat to them! The only kind of developers I have any luck with are WordPress developers.

Hey, except the "SPAM" comment, each reply was at a different time to a post made after my own reply... so multi-quote would not have worked, cannot quote people which did not have posted yet.
UpWork is better, both freelancer and people per hour are utterly trash.
