The Internet is a very strange place. There are good guys though. Thank you for sharing your experience.Based on my experience, those that offer free guest post on this forums are rarely worth it... Not saying all are but don't just accept a free guest post for the sake of it.
If you go into the giveaway sections you would find them popping up from time to time. Here is my experience with several that appeared recently:
- One claimed to be a high DA / PA site etc. Went into their site. It only had a few articles. The trick? It was a necromancered site. Meaning the previous owner used it for a completely different purpose, didn't renew it. These guys then came on board and resurrected it. So site had tonnes of irrelevant backlinks.
- Second one claimed to be featured on many prominent websites. Could not find any evidence of this. Also, claimed to have alot of traffic. The catch? The website was running on bot traffic.
Here is a good list that had help me avoid such time-wasting guest post.

I have a new blog. I really need it. please DM detailsFree Guest Posting Options only available for New blogs, Who's don't have any Moz values on their blogs, Those only allowed free Guest Posting.
Others are charging some reasonable amount for publishing.
Genius concept, simple execution. I'd say don't stop looking at Moz etc metrics, just add factoring in Alexa scores at the start of the process. To find free guest post sites that have real traffic, AND good metrics, start with a good list of free guest post urls, as found here:A lot of websites accept free guest posting but have a style guide and rules you must follow before submission. Anyone that asks for money for guest posting is clearly not in the game of user generated content, but more online marketing minded with the intention to make money from the website via guest posting and advertising.
My opinion is stop looking at Moz metrics and start looking at Alexa scores for traffic and look at the domains social signals and current backlinks.
Basically it's like this:
Real News Guest Post - Website With Traffic
Fake News Guest Post - Glorified PBN
