Forget WHM/CPanel. Use This...

so, why most web hosting company use cpanel rather than interworx?

I'm think iworx was created long after cpanel. In my personal recent experience, there is no good reason.

Is like asking why most of the bloggers out there are using WordPress and not Joomla or Drupal :)

P.S: You are manually setting the mail limit through the panel atm

I wouldn't say that's an accurate comparison. One has clear major benefits over the other. Scaling is a big deal. As for Joomla though does anyone actually prefer it to WP? I haven't attempted any large scale mailing yet but if I do I'll change any setting I need to. I haven't looked into that issue. Does it apply to the current version? Even if it does it sounds like an easy fix. Everything has been easy so far. I've even made some customizations to the panel already via my own plugin that would have been a big pain in cpanel.

I have 1 Question, why you are promoting this?

No idea, why you created this post here. In general view, it's really not necessary to post.

Anyway, thanks for the letting us know You are using this. If i need any help I will pm you.

Thanks

I created the post because like most people I've been using cPanel for as long as it's been around but once I found iworx I realized the benefits and that it would be good info to share. That's mainly what this forum is all about.

Hi op and thanks i will check that.
For now i use ispconfig for my dedicated server.
What's your tought about ispconfig?

I've never used it. I only saw a screenshot of it. It looks like something I could code in a day. If I were to use something free it would probably be virtualmin and webmin.

Never used interworx. I've heard about it that is not very stable when it comes to Cloud. I've read the Digitalocean experience above, but still, I have my doubts..

I haven't encountered any instability so far and I've tested all the services it manages. The only problem I had was with the mass cpanel backup import. It didn't import my mysql databases so I had to xfer my backups over manually and import them. It wasn't that big of a deal. I haven't found anything to be unstable. If I were to I would consider not using it.

What I like so far...

* Integrates with WHMCS.
* Scales my own cloud/clusters.
* Supports and has a plugin for Litespeed Web Server.
* Very simple configuration. No need to change 999999 settings.
* I get to use whatever Linux repositories I want.
* The manual config changes I make are reflected in the panel and vise-versa.
* Supports CloudLinux.
* Cloudflare plugin.
* Let's Encrypt plugin instantly secures my sites. No more buying SSL certificates.
* Has Softaculus.
* Much better theming.
* VERY easy to code plugins.
* The developers actually respond to you and implement requests.
* DNS records aren't required to be botched like in cpanel. A zone for your hostname and hostnames of nameservers? That never made sense to me.

Of course a lot of those things can be done in cpanel but as I said before, cpanel just doesn't scale. There's just nothing to make me want to use cpanel again. The questions you should ask yourself are "Can cpanel do everything Interworx can?" No. "Can Interworx do everything cPanel can?" Yes. "Can cpanel do anything important interworx can't?" No. "Can interworx do anything important cpanel can't?" Yes.

I've found it very useful and that makes it useful to share. I'm willing to bet that most who go on the defensive about this have simply been using cpanel for a long time. I'd been using it for so long that I didn't think anything would be worth replacing it with but I was wrong. I have some plans to expand my setup as well. A Galera cluster comes to mind. Interworx shouldn't have any problem with me doing that either. Clusters within clusters!

Someday I'll make my own ultimate panel. Until then this is the best I've found so far.

What about the interworx support is it better then cPanel's

The support you get depends on where you get your license. I got mine straight from Interworx because I figured they'd know more than anyone of course. I've only put in a few requests and they were good experiences. The support direct from Interworx is only normal business hours though. I'm sure that some resellers provide 24/7 support. Most of the time I don't even need to submit a ticket though because if I submit a thread in their forum I always get a quick reply. As for support capabilities, the panel has an integrated remote support API feature just like cpanel does so if you want them to they can login and help you fix whatever problem there is. Support is included with the license.

I read that Interworx still doesnt limit emails per package, is that still the case? Because that alone would be a deal breaker for me.

The amount of emails that can be sent from the accounts per-month?

No per hour.

Yes, you can do it with qmail. Not from within the Interworx panel yet though. That feature is on their roadmap. If I wanted to I could make a plugin to do it from the panel. It's very easy to make plugins. For now if I wanted to do it I would just add the rate limit extension from the command line.

So it works just like a hypervisor, basically a system that can separate the running services and OS from the actual hardware. I have setup a few hypervisors in small business before, it makes scaling super easy

It doesn't do that. It uses clustering to spread out load across multiple servers but no virtualization is required. It might be possible to use some virtualization software to create a cloud (Underneath any panel) but I haven't tried that yet. I've used Xen, OpenVZ, and KVM to make VPS but haven't tried what you suggest (Yet). If it's possible to combine resources using virtualization that would be nice. In that case I would probably set up the cloud and then use interworx for an extra layer to cluster multiple clouds together. That way you could have multiple availability zones and manage the accounts on them from one central location. I'd have to put some more thought into how that would all play out though.

/heads to google

I used VSPHERE to deploy the hypervisors i have in place
Also xenserver, i think i perfer xenserver over VSPHERE

Yeah but what the other person was talking about was like running an OS across multiple machines. I started to search for that but quickly realized it wouldn't make any sense. No network connection would work fast enough. That's what service clustering is for. Best to do clustering with things like Interworx, Galera, Litespeed, nginx, etc.

Is that what you saying? the people who use Cpanel are idiots?

I say what I mean and I don't remember saying anything like that.

Edit: Someone was talking about ispconfig before and when searching for it I'd mistaken some ncurses thing for it. It looks okay. From what I can see though it's still just an admin panel. Clustering is my main goal so if something could do that better it would be worth comparing.

Seems over complicated to me. Why not just get a cloud server with cpanel installed - that is scalable.

I'll give you a long answer of what I did and why...

It doesn't scale and it more often than not will prevent you from customizing your server outside of the panel. Scaling is the main problem. I just started using Interworx so what I've done is setup 2 nameservers (Each on a $3 VPS) and then installed Interworx on a very powerful dedicated server. I'm using that as my cluster manager. For now it hosts all of my sites on its own but if server load winds up becoming too much for this dedi, I can deploy another Interworx server as a member of my Interworx cluster to take some load off of the main server. My cluster nodes are probably going to be VPSs (Cheaper than my dedi/main server).

What you sort of wind up with is your own hosting cloud. I've gone through all the options and I haven't come across anything I need to do that I can't. Many people (Including myself) have been asking CPanel to implement scaling solutions for many years but they never make any plans to do it, feature requests that fall on deaf ears.

It depends on your needs. If you don't need to handle that much traffic, mysql queries, disk usage, etc. or don't want to have more underlying control over your system then there's nothing wrong with CPanel. On the other hand, why not be prepared just in case you wind up needing it? Otherwise, you'll wind up having to migrate anyway which is annoying. Luckily, Interworx can mass import all your accounts from your CPanel server so it wasn't too bad but of course you'll spend some hours changing settings and whatnot.

I have some high traffic sites and I really needed to upgrade from the VPS I was using (It was getting bogged down and you can't just add a second CPanel server to help you) so when I went shopping for a dedi and then learned of interworx it was a no-brainer. The only thing I miss is the nginx caching I had installed on WHM but I'm about to replace Apache with Litespeed anyway so I won't need it. Litespeed is a great drop-in replacement for Apache as it greatly outperforms it. Nginx outperforms it as well but then you can't use Apache directives and .htaccess files.

So right now my hosting sauce is: Dedi + CloudLinux + interworx + Litespeed + Cheap DNS servers and future iworx VPS servers as load invariably increases. The central server doesn't have to be a dedi. I just wanted assured performance on the main server because I have a lot of traffic and mysql requests running on it at the moment.

Not to geek out over it but I'm very excited and happy with my new setup. I was afraid I wasn't going to be but I am.

I have to agree with FuManChu. I do consider using Interworx for all of my future sites AND my VPS clients. I understand that WHM/cPanel is more popular and that this might be a problem when marketing reseller packages. Still, do your own research. Interworx has also some articles comparing them with cPanel. I think Interworx might not be compatible with ALL what you may need, but I think it is close. Said all that, I have currently only experience with WHM/cPanel but somehow I agree that Interworx IS better. I will start installing iworx the next weeks starting my own pre-trials. I'm going to use SolusVM/CentOS/OpenVZ

It's no more complicated than installing cpanel. Also, the point is that there's no such thing as "A cloud server with cpanel installed - that is scalable."
