I'm not preaching to anyone, I'm simply sharing what has worked wonders for myself and advising that you can be a real dumbass like me and still do ok with effort 
Ok this is not just aimed at newbies, it maybe nothing new and may be obvious to a lot but it won't be to others. It may even help the more experienced members from the receiving end

1) Manners - They Cost Nothing But Are Priceless.
a) When is the last time you:
- Asked for help/advice by starting your sentence with something similar to, 'Hi, I'd be very grateful if you could....'.
- Finished a sentence with something similar to, 'thank you very much, I really appreciate your help/tips.
2) Use A Dictionary/Search Button Before Asking and there is a search engine I've heard talk of called Google or some such name
3) Never Underestimate Who You're Dealing With.
a) Always assume you're punching above your weight whenever asking for advice. BHW has some seriously clever members with long memories.
- If you ask advice from someone, you need them, not the other way round, structure your question intelligently, thoughtfully and politely before you hit that send/reply button.
- How is your question going to sound to the person it's intended for?
- Does this sound like you?, 'Hey bro - tell me what works in seo'?
- How do you think your question sounds to someone who has sweated blood/cried tears/spent $1,000's/worked upwards of 80 hrs a week for 2 years/lost gf's & wives/not bought clothes for themselves/bought cheap food/not gone on holiday for years?

Q) Why do proverbs/sayings/well known phrases survive generations?
A) Simply because there is truth & value in most - use them.
- Actions speak louder than words
- All that glitters is not gold
- All things are difficult before they are easy

- Can't see the wood for the trees
