Two weeks ago I took my daughter to the dentist for a root canal ($1000) and I gave him my computer technician biz card.

His receptionist left a message on my phone Friday asking what my prices were.

Arrrrrrgh!!!

I'm so new here I smell like baby formula.

I need to call him back on Monday to tell him something. I dont know exactly what he wants/needs.

If I could do SEO for him that would be great, eh? (dont know if he has a website)

I've learned a little about keywords, wordpress etc. but damn!
Didn't expect to get that phone call.

This will be the ultimate on the job training. If I can make this happen and get a referral from him...wow!

I've learned in the computer biz, if the client asks me something, dont say I dont know, say I'll find out.

And as the saying goes:

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with b u l l s h i t .

Looks like I need a crash course b4 Monday.

Help!

I would tell him, "it depends on what needs to be done, the price varies with everyone based on their needs"

Free braces for the family.

Or go by how much you think you're worth an hour. $20, $30, $50/hour, etc. Calculate how long what he wants will take and go from there.

I'd like to be able to SEO him, but I dont even have a page one site to show him.

I've read so much here:

--doing a work free for a month and making a deal based on new clients.

--figuring out how much web to conversion client is worth.

etc.

I suppose I could call back Monday and say I'm booked to give me extra time to learn so more stuff...

arrrgh!

You don't even know what he wants yet. Prices for what? As long as you haven't or don't promise something you can't deliver, why worry? Sounds like an excellent opportunity for the learning experience if nothing else.

Good luck on Monday, and post your results.

There's a fantastic post on the SENuke forum about a guy named voltron and how he got started, what he charges, what he does for his clients, etc. I can't share links yet, but I think you might get a lot out of his post. So let me try and explain how to find it.

First go to the senuke site slash forum.

Under the Success Stories topic, look for the "SENuke in the real world" topic. On page 8 look for voltron's posts.

Sorry to post so soon after the last one, but I didn't see your follow up post.

You are getting WAY ahead of yourself bro! Just find out what he wants and take it from there. If you can do it, great. If not, outsource it or refer it to someone else.

hire someone from bhw (that knows what he's talking about) to make the call for you :P

I charge my clients analyzing the competition,if is something that i can do easy then it will be 500 month,if it is a hard keyword then it will be 1000,this is the start price,as the works is going we discuss about high prices.

If you never worked with a site before i will not recommend that you catch a service now,i recommend that you create 5-10 niche sites and try to rank then, with this experience you will knew if you can rank a client.

But can be a good idea to work the first month for free.

Do what I do, charge 200$ an hour so he thinks you're really good. Then he'll think that you are truly amazing if even the slightest thing happens :p

Example:
I charged a client 250$ an hour for SEO, I knew he hired a company before he hired me, the backlinks that company left shot him up to rank 1. I did like 10 backlinks and charged him for 3 hours. He was amazed with my 'skill' and I've gotten over 10 other clients thru him :D

ask for someone here to help you with a page that look like yours.... mine is in Spanish so It wouldn't work, then outsource the work. Call him back, check exactly what he needs and tell him that in a day or 2 you'll have the quotation. I'm sure that the people here will help. If you dont find anyone PM me. I'll get you a solution

People hate hearing crap like this. Why not just go with the DP favorite "What's your budget" then show him a couple of site examples that 404 or when he contacts the site admin they never heard of you. That's my favorite.

He wants what everyone else wants to be the number one result...or better the whole first page for his desired keyword search. So if you life in xyz he wants to be number one for xyz dentist.

As you gave him a computer technician biz card there's a good chance he wants
to know how to hide all his porn from the wife.
But seriously you've got all day Sunday to draw up a list of questions. Try and search
for him online, gather as much information as you can.
Ask him things like "does he have a site?" "Is he in the local listings?" "What does he want to achieve?" then tell him you'll have a detailed analysis for him within a couple
of days that'll give you enough time to check out the download section and ask questions on here.

Go buy xyzdentist.com buy around 50,000 xrumer posts and build an autoblog for the site that has his logo on it. When you get it to #1 tell him $1250.00 a year and free exams etc. or you sell to another dentist.

A year?!?!? You are crazy, he could get that price for a MONTH!

lol...

The reality is, you're probably not even going to talk to the dentist, unless it's a really small practice. Most dental practices have an office manager (in this case maybe the "secretary") and they're often the first contact for this kind of stuff.

by the way,

on my daughter's next break from college, she's going back for the next procedure (crown the root canal tooth?)---another 1000 dollars
