Maybe a stupid question, but what are the pros and cons of following private accounts?

Short answer, waste of time. Long explanation, a Fing waste of your time.

Follow regular accounts is your best way of getting followers back, and getting engagement.

Most private accounts are real persons so if they follow you back they won't be bots.
