hey bhw, whats your folks experience on following people on twitter without getting banned? how many per day?

For new accounts I follow between 450 and 500 per day. About double for unfollow without problems so far.

< 1k follow/day. but if ur follower count is still small, try with 500.

is this everyday? or as my followers increase so does my capability to follow more at one time?

I usually start slow with 100-200 following at first and in a week change it to following 100-700... so I try to be very random with amount of people I follow.
Also, sometimes I just follow or just unfollow and sometimes I just don't run any tasks... you have to be as random as possible.

You can't really follow 500 people every day... it's too unnatural and twitter hammer will fall.
