Followers decreasing. What should I do?

I am actively posting but my followers decrease. What should I do? Should I start following more people? Is it about the hashtags?

Depends on what kind of followers those are. There people that follow you as you're both in the same niche, but will eventually unfollow you.
Or perhaps you're lacking on the quality of your posts? Can you provide more information about your followers?

Have you recently purchased followers from a cheap source?
Or did you change the username or the niche of the account you were into?

Those could be some reasons for decreasing followers or lastly, your content could be turning not-so-interesting for your followers.

post and engage others more. Follow, comments. Or it oculd be fake accounts getting purged

Instagram has been cracking down on bots and fake accounts. I've noticed the same with some of the accounts that I handle for clients. It's not you.
So, as Instagram deletes/bans these accounts, we will see some loses in followers.

Have you done Follow/Unfollow recently? If you unfollow some of the users that you got through following, they might unfollow you too after some time
