Follow Me, Or Not [Journal]

Hit 500 unique visitors yesterday! Halfway to 1,000!

I'm close to finishing the supplement database which should have been done a long time ago. After that I can move on to the exercise database and start posting videos on youtube.

One of the things that I can do "right now" to increase my traffic is to have my TweetAdder software to start posting more often each day. I just need to get a bigger list of automated tweets to go out so that it won't be posting recurring things every few days.

Gotta keep on keeping on!

For the above post I meant "visits" not "unique visitors".

But as far as that goes, before 2 days ago my highest visit count was exactly 400, 2 days ago I hit 503, and yesterday I had 602! I also just hit 5k fans on Facebook just a an hour or two ago.

Broke a new page views record today, 1,317 is the new record now.

I was going to start the exercise database tomorrow night but I can't get a shirt made until next week, and I want to be wearing a shirt with my website name on it for my exercise videos so that they look more legitimate and professional. This will start a whole new source of traffic, youtube. Meanwhile my Facebook and Twitter presence will continue to grow as it has. The start of the exercise database will really kick things into the fast lane for the growth of this site, so I'm very excited to get it under way.

Then these updates will start to get very interesting.

your thread looks good as i didn't see any thread on authority site building yet...

will see your updates for motivation and planning new plans for my authority site.

I'm not totally shredded but I'm definitely pretty muscular. I've actually been thinking that I should probably get really tan (we have a tanning bed at our gym) and really cut up to do the videos. I've started tanning some, and with my current body you can def. tell that I'm a muscular and fit guy, but being toned and shredded up with really low body fat would probably make me look much more credible.

I hate to do it because I'm still trying to bulk up and put on more muscle, and it's much easier and quicker to put on muscle mass when you're retaining a little "baby fat" and eating a shit ton of calories per day... but making this website successful is more important than me trying to get bigger quicker.

DAMN YOU KINGCOS! It's going to feel very counterproductive shredding up when summer is just ending, and I would love to keep bulking up, but I gotta do what I gotta do... so seriously thank you for opening my eyes to what I need to do for my business, and not what I want to do.

Edit: By the way I might break a new page views record for second day in a row.

Nice journey you got here, I've never built a site without heavy reliance on SEO so this is really interesting to me. Subscribed. And good luck!

Nice Thread man.. You're doing exactly what I got in mind.. keep it up bro, I'm subscribed to this one!

My search engine presence is actually pretty terrible. I'll get like 130-200 Twitter referrals per day, about 100+ Facebook referrals on a good day, and then I'll be happy to get like 5 search engine visits (not including google image referrals). It's pretty bad but I don't know what to do about it. I've tried doing some Fivver gigs, not XRumer blasts but like social bookmarking, micro blogging links, stuff like that... but I think it made it worse so I stopped. I figure I'll eventually naturally get a search engine presence. I'm mostly excited now about getting these videos up on youtube so I can start bringing in traffic from youtube while at the same time building my Twitter and Facebook presence, and also making my site look more credible with a comprehensive exercise database full of videos... and then maybe Google will start giving me some more credit in the SE's.

A Fitness site you mean? If that's you in the avatar you look pretty muscular.

Yeah I suggest you stay away from fiverr and other services for now, if you don't know much about seo, especially fiverr can do you more harm than good and you don't want to get your site "flagged" before you even start.

At some point you may want to do some "safe" link building to get long-tail traffic, and by safe link building I mean: Big article directories and guest posting on relevant sites, maybe some press-releases. You know, super white-hat stuff.

But the social traffic thing seems to be working well for you so I'd just keep focusing on that for now.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah the social marketing is working great for me, and I think my SE traffic is picking up but ever so slowly, like from 5 Search visits per day to 10.

I've started cutting up and getting tan in the tanning bed thanks to KINGCOS's advice. I'm waiting for the shirts to come in with my website name on them, but that just gives me time to cut up. In the mean time I'm still working on the supplement database. They'll be A LOT more sub-category menu items coming up in the Supplement menu in the coming week.

I just broke 17k twitter followers and I'm just about at 5.5k Facebook likes. Current highest Visit day is still 602, and highest pageview day is 1,424. We still won't talk about site earnings cause I'm still only doing like $1-2 per day through Adsense and not getting any sales on my other links.

Well I just spent 2.5 days trying to get my site hosting switched over from a Hostgator shared account to my 1and1 VPS server that I have... but I couldn't get it working. For the first day and a half I had multiple (I stress multiple) problems with 1and1 in which I had to email them back and forth many times. Then after working all of the problems out I ran into problems of my own on trying to get Wordpress to work on a new server and keep all of my files intact.

After the site being down during this time I've given up on it for now, I just recently switched the DNS hosting to point back to hostgator to get the site back online for now. Whenever I've cooled down in a few days and want to give it another go I'm going to first try and get Wordpress set up and working on the new server first. I'll point another domain to it for testing and once I get Wordpress working then I'll try to simply transfer the content of the site and keep the core of wordpress intact.

I'm hoping the transfer back to hostgator only takes a few hours at the most, I'd like to get back to actually making progress on adding content to the site.

Switched back to hostgator and still having problems. This is really stressing me the FUCK OUT!

hostgator has great customer support! try to contact them...they helped me a lot at customer support chat

The site's back up and running again. After not being able to do anything with it for two days I'm ready to hit it hard. Also took a mini-vacation over the past 30 hours so I'm really ready to make this site the real deal... bring daily visits from 500 per day up to 5,000 per day!

Nice work man, you said you were spending around $20 a day for PPC. Were you advertising through Facebook?

Also how much have you spent so far on this project?

Also what do you think of Tweetadder, I was considering picking it up.

Keep up the good work, and I wouldn't worry to much about SEO, you seem to be rocking it with social media and from what I've learned from Crash's 30 day challenge, that is all you need.

Nathan

I'm glad you asked because I didn't realize how much I'd spent on ppc lol. So far I've spent $700 on Facebook ads and then maybe another $140 on things like Tweet Adder, a few Wordpress plugins, and a couple fiverr gigs. I've still got Facebook spending $15 per day. I'm def. putting way more money into the site then I'm getting out of it at the moment, but as I've said I'm going to make a lifelong career out of marketing to the health and fitness niche, and this site is how I'm going to get that off the ground and get started.

Yeah I figure SEO will come naturally eventually, within a week I should be uploading my first youtube video, the first of hundreds to come... and that's what I'm hoping really makes the site take off.

TweetAdder is AMAZING!!! Couldn't imagine where I'd be without it. I have a list of 300 (more to come) custom Tweets that all link to specific pages of the site, I have it send out a random tweet from the list every 2 hours which brings me about half of my traffic each day. I have it follow 500 new people per day (all followers of big health and fitness twitter accounts), and then afternoon 4 days it'll unfollow anyone who didn't follow back. It's literally both building my Twitter list and driving me a lot of traffic to my site all at the same time, day in day out, minute by minute... if you have use for it then it's money well spent.

Nice thread! Good progress, keep it up!

Once upon a time ago, my dream used to be to own my own gym! heh, good times!

Broke a new visits record yesterday. Old record was 602, yesterday was 731. 269 away from 1,000! Also broke 1,500 page views for the first time. Trying to get cut up as quickly as possible so I can start posting youtube videos and getting the exercise database underway... I keep telling myself that that's going to be the big thing that takes this site to the next level.

Here's a pic of analytics since I haven't uploaded one in a while. The days with little to no traffic is when I was having all of that trouble switching hosting and analytics wasn't being tracked since the site was down. You can see the record-breaking day yesterday.

Side by side comparison to an analytic screenshot about 3.5 months ago. You can see the growth.
