Put an ad on Flippa that your site is for sale. Put it for months out. Put a BIN price high so that if someone did come along and want it, you would sell it. Put a high reserve. make it a $1 auction. Cant get much more targeted than the people you would be getting there, even if it cost you $100 for all the bells and whistles.

So you bump a 5-year-old thread, noticing the OP's site is dead and think yours will fare differently ? Have you seen all the free ebay alternatives? Guess what , they all suck as they have so little traffic that even for free they will end up costing you more lost profit.

What free ebay alternatives are you talking about? I think I have a chance at making a decent marketplace. Just working on a invite only system to begin with as this will improve the quality and having over 10 years working in digital marketing I can implement a decent long term advertising strategy.

Why everyone has to use flippa as part of the name. Can't you even come up with your own name?

Because the word flipping is the term given to what the service is.

I like your idea. Although it was a small site, you have to put in at least vps or dedicad server. There is a large overhead in it, promotion and backlinks

Can you please elaborate on that e.g. overhead? VPS's should be standard now anyway, shared hosting is dead its too insecure.

i mean for hijacking an old thread to promote your site. If you want to promote a site on here then you have to go through the proper channels.
Hijacking other peoples threads and ones that are way old and using them for promotion is not good.

^^^ This. It's like giving the name to the next mobile OS an "Andros" or "Mobdroid". When I see a marketplace with the word "flip" in it's name it's an immediate turnoff.

About this new Flippa altenative - suggestions for owner.
- As first you failed with name (this is big fail, if you want to build 'brand name' like Flippa)
- This theme is default in this script, you need to have custom design (yes, this isn't cheap and takes a lot of time)
- As first to invite people to visit / sell on your website offer FREE selling & cheap featured (like 5$) - this is needed, you have to know Flippa is big player here
- Good idea is also to buy any premium or good domain related to website selling & buying (that's on you)
- If you don't have money to invest you website will be 'down' within weeks / months - so now you need to have money to invest money in advertising
... I can help you with this all, but if you don't have money to invest don't go in this niche, it's hard here. And your website don't have favicon, really bad work. And remove this shit 'generating domain', because when you open new site in hard competition bussiness - first thing aren't earnings.

** WHAT I WOULD DO? **
- Buying premium domain related to this niche and brandable (maybe it will take weeks before you will find it)
- Creating simple & unique logo
- Using this script is fine, but theme "refresh" and functions is needed
- Use targeted advertising with banners / text ads on Digitalpoint, Blackhatworld, Sitepoint, Warriorforum, 7Search... Do this or you can close your website now without traffic...
*** Invest money, if you want to see any (at least small) success with your website ***
*** If you won't do this things I said you - I GUARANTEE you that you website will die soon ***

Exactly. Of course, as someone else pointed out, Flipping is the term used for building and then selling a site, but that doesnt mean every site has to use that term, Flippa came up with the idea first and they have made a brand out of that obvious reference, the effect will not be the same for anyone else - unless of course you just want to piggyback on the success of flippa.com.

If you are purely building a clone site and just want a bit of success then yes fine, it makes sense because you can profit a bit from the name but if you are trying to establish a brand the one thing you do not want to do is copy another brand.
