Flipped my first site!

Hey there just wanted to start off by thanking everyone because I wouldn't have been able to make this site without BHW.

Anyways, I spent 3 days on a site and ended up flipping it for $120.

Here are some crucial parts of what I did: (NEWB FRIENDLY)

researched a keyword using "Google Adwords Keyword Tool" (Make sure its on exact not broad)

Bought a .com domain on Godaddy for $7.67 (using coupon FAN3) Also, Godaddy is currently having a sale on .com domains so check that out.

Set up hosting with Hostgator. Not the best but with the coupon newhgcoupon you get the first month for .01

After installing wordpress I installed a few plugins. The ones I like to use are: all in one seo plugin, google analytics for wordpress, and 1 I just found from another topic: searchterms tagging. I also changed the permalinks to %postname% which is a wordpress option.

Then I posted about 10 articles that took me almost no time. My niche was cooking so I slipped a clickbank cookbook into the site too. I made sure I posted one post with great content. This was crucial because it helped me get the majority of my traffic. I submitted the good article to stumbleupon digg etc. This got me indexed quickly and I rapidly went from the 5th page of my keyword to the first.

Then I went over to DP. I made sure I let everyone know that wordpress was set up with plugins, I was already indexed in google, the domain had 1 year left (because I just bought it :D), clickbank product incorporated into the site etc. Whatever you can possibly add to the "resume" of the site is good.

Let me tell you it feels good to have some dough in the paypal account! Even if its only a start. Thanks BHW!

One thing I've always been curious about when flipping is what they get the rights to. Obviously the domain name and the websites content, but what about the hosting? Do they get that too? If not, how do you go from the website being hosted on your hosting to theirs? Is it just as simple as backing up?

And transferring the domain name, is that just as simple as changing the domains details to theirs?

Sorry for all the questions haha.

No problem, just incase you didn't get everything from that topic, I saved the website as a zip and sent it to the buyer. Then I transferred the domain to their godady account.

And to the other question yes I sold it with no revenue :) it was 3 days old
 
Good job, but if I were you, I would have held it for a little longer and got it earning a little revenue before selling.

You said you got it to page 1 of Google. This is a good accomplishment by itself. It was only a matter of time before you started seeing some revenue from the site, whether it be the Clickbank product or Adsense or whatever else you could monetize the niche with. (assuming the keyword gets searches anyway.)

Even if the site was making like $20 per month or something small, you could have flipped it for $200 + instead.

Either way, good job on your first flip. Now you know what to do so just keep working at it and do more of them.
 
excellent man.you have the right qualities to become a successful internet marketer.Not a lot of people convert their knowledge into action in IM.You surely seem to be on the right path.

I was under the impression that you had to hold the site for 30 days or something after you bought it... of course I know nothing about flipping sites as that is not part of my business plan.

Not really - although technically building a site from scratch and selling it isn't "flipping" anyway, despite the fact the term is used as such most of the time.

The 30 day thing is probably people referring to the fact you can't usually change registrars on a new/transferred domain for 30 days (it varies) - which is rarely an issue as you can just push it to an account at the same registrar (ie name.com -> name.com)

The art of flipping is knowing the perfect time to sell (for you) so if you have good cashflow it often makes sense to hold a site for longer. Flipping quickly is good for cashflow but you often don't get a premium for it.
 
yea congratulations, thats very good, its alwaays good to make that first sale, it will give you joy and zeal to carry on, juts scale it up to make more money,

Congrats, but please be cautious on DP. Many, I mean MANY people buy websites with paypal, seller pushes domain then they issue a dispute on Paypal. Conclusion: They get their moneyback, and your domain. And no, godaddy does not care nor will do anything to help you.
