First 100$ day!

First i want to comment on bing traffic vs google traffic from my view only. As of late, Google has been becoming more and more anti webmaster friendly, And even if bing and yahoo are behind google, At least their is potential with them. Especially when you consider how fast google is pissing off it's user base. But i would also like to add that, With out actually getting traffic from google, I can't say for certain how much more traffic i could have potentially gotten yesterday.

Q1) Did you use the bing keyword tool to find a niche with lots of bing traffic?

No, This wasn't necessary. PM me and ill tell you why as i don't want this public.

Q2) What % of your traffic is from bing and what % is from social. This is key one since if 90% is from social then bing still isn't terribly hot for marketers.

Social is about 20%, I have done NO social advertising, This is all because one day i decided to add a "Share" button. Amazing utility i must say.. Bing is about 68% rest yahoo and direct typein / bookmarks.

I SEE so many people on this forum ignoring bing and yahoo in order to tackle the mystical google beast, This is a very stupid thing to do in my opinion. Googles big pockets are causing it to suffocate. It's like seeing a loonie and a toonie on the ground, Are you going to pick up the toonie and ignore the loonie? Or are you going to take both? (Can currency )

It's funny when people try to apply that phrase to SEO, because the fact is you can't. That's why SEO is waste of time.

Yes, indeed. However, I don't think SEO in general is a waste of time. Just Google lately. I would maybe re-phrase and say purely SEO is a waste of time, ie 100% relying on SEO, no visitor retention of any sort.

I understand some of you reading this will turn your nose up and that's fine. Some people are shit-hot at SEO and make a fortune with hit-and-run sites, but that's not for me and from a business perspective it's not ideal.


This is why I'm intrigued by bing. I'm happy to get much less traffic if the site will last longer. 2 years of lower traffic vs 2 months of higher traffic etc.

I think people go after Google because they dominate the search market. Not by a small margin but they just crush it. Everyone kind of assumes that if you rank well in Google (which I for example just assume is the most sophisticated) you will rank pretty well in the others. For it to be more profitable for a SEO to focus on Bing/Yahoo one of a few things needs to be true:

-in the targetted demographic Bing/Yahoo is the dominant search engine used. (I'm fairly sure these demographies exist)
-there are variables that hurt you in Google but help you in Bing/Yahoo while competition is heavily focussed on ranking in Google. (could be the case with the OP but I have no idea if these exist)
-ranking in the different brands SERPs requires a vastly different approach (again, I have just stupidly and ignorantly by default assumed this is not the case, would be very intersting to learn otherwise)

Anyway, I think most people think like me and it just seems very obvious to go after Google SERPS.
