Finding Amazon Product Keywords?

Recently I have had some pretty good success with ranking for long tail keywords, but I have never tried ranking for Amazon products. This little bit of early research I have done for keywords has thrown me off a bit though. Like when I look for tons of random Amazon product keywords in Google key tool I cant find any keywords even long tail ones that have low competition and most have really low searches, it's like even specific keywords with 90 monthly searches have high competition. So my question is, is this normal? And should I just overlook the medium and high competition in this case?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the the competition section of the Google Keyword Tool is based on Adwords competition, not actually the competition you would face when trying to rank for your keyword.

the keyword tool shows adwords competition, so high is actually good as it means its a buyer keyword.

You have more success in terms of long tail keywords as those keywords are unexploited. When you target such keywords, you are automatically getting traffic based on that product and you have more chances of making money with PPC and affiliate marketing in that.

One more thing is that the competition you get is for google but if you want to get ranked on google then you got to beat that competition first. SO that competition is to be considered too.

Some people have reported success with products that are soon to be released. It's a gamble though.

how does unreleased Amazon products work? Like if someone purchases a product that is not out yet under ur link when do you get credited the commission?

That's right. You get paid when pre-ordered items are dispatched.

When you find keywords in Google Keyword Tool, always search them in Google and check the ranking of the 1st page result. That's the better way to find the competition.
