I would be grateful if BHW could provide an additional feature which would show on someone's profile their username history including the dates of any changes.

There are a number of examples I have come across recently where it would have been helpful to have this feature in the interests of fairness and transparency.

I've noticed that a handful of people have used the username change feature egregiously to cover a previous Shit List or a thread which does not reflect well on them. Personally, I don't think the username change feature should be used in such a manner and if it is, then I think everyone should have the right to check that individual's profile to show the username history.

The example I am looking at doesn't seem to show that though (and I don't want to post their username).

The only way I've previously been able to find out is if there are quoted posts showing the old username.

Is the user ID the numerical bit at the end? The issue with that is you would have to know their previous numerical ID and even with my memory, I would struggle to keep track.

PM me the username and I'll check for you. It's the user ID at the end of the username that corresponds to the user not what we decide to call ourselves. I'm afraid in this case we're all a number not a name ;)

I see what you mean. I was thinking the old and new username appear in the profile address, but you're referring to just the numbers.

The feature I was looking for would be something like this on someone's profile:

Username History:

01/01/2010 - Joe Bloggs
01/07/2019 - Pete Smith
01/07/2020 - Jimmy Hendrix

I see what you're saying but there is little point as any link to
https://www.blackhatworld.com/members/JoeBloggs.1056250/https://www.blackhatworld.com/members/PeteSmith.1056250/https://www.blackhatworld.com/members/JimmyHendrix.1056250/would still link to
https://www.blackhatworld.com/members/sephrata.1056250/
It's 1056250 that is the unique key.
Plus, if changed, a period after the username JimmyHendrix was dropped it would be available again so you'd end up with a number of users with the same name and potential false positives. By sticking with the number there is little chance of false positives. No matter how many times the name changes.

Hope you see the logic.

I'd like to think that this will definitely require custom modifications... and i doubt Xenforo forum software (used by this site) currently support this feature. You might want to direct your proposition to the developer of the software to include it as a default feature (using the link at the footer of the forum).

The only issue I see with this is usernames that are changed due to the username being the users real name would be on show. Defeats the purpose of the name change.

Well that still doesn't override the fact that some unscrupulous elements use it as a mechanism to circumvent their evil schemes. which is most likely the reason for the demand of the feature by Op.

I agree, so if there was a system in place (through support) where the name history could be cleared in a situation like I mentioned then it would be perfect.

Feature Request: Username change for non Jr.Vip members at least once in a lifetime.

You want the benefit of the paid memberships which devalues the paid membership.

Jr.VIPs can change twice in a year(if am not wrong).....am asking for once in a lifetime for non Jr.VIP....you can consider some criteria like member should be older than 6month with <100 reaction score or something like that.....

That's undoubtedly a pragmatic solution but i foresee the support being comprehensively inundated by tons of request.

They can actually change it once per every 365 days.

But the name change feature is part of the benefit of contributing to the forum and to allow it for others devalues the membership.

Pretty sure it's fairly easy. Check if they got their name changed for personal reasons, if yes, you delete the public history.
